NOVEMBER 2022

Government Corner

Fall Is Here! Please leave your shoes at the door…

Hello, Spartans! Happy National Native American Heritage Month; a time to celebrate the traditions, languages, and stories of Native American, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, and Island communities all around the world. I would like to honor the original stewards of the land on which our university stands on, the Muwekma Ohlone Tribe. It is essential that their rich histories and contributions continue to thrive with each passing generation.

In celebration of National Authors Day, Associated Students’ Programming Board will be hosting their Spartan Book Fair event on Tuesday, November 15th, 12-3pm, at Smith/Carlos Lawn. Come out to support local student authors and their work. We will be providing coffee, pastries, and a warm space for anyone who would like to participate in an open mic!

Get involved with Student Government by joining us as a student-at-large in one of the various A.S. committees! From writing letters of support on current legislation, to directly planning events you want to see on campus, find more information here. Funding is also available to Recognized Student Organizations at sjsu.edu/as/funding.php

The A.S. Board of Directors holds regular meetings on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month at 3pm. The next meeting will be on November 30th. Feel free to join any of our meetings in Student Union Meeting Room 1A or virtually through Zoom! We look forward to seeing you. If you would like to meet with an A.S. Director in-person or virtually, please check out our office hours and contact info at sjsu.edu/as/boardhours.

Congratulations to the A.S. Scholarship Program recipients. you are truly deserving Spartans! For a list of names, visit sjsu.edu/as/scholarships. Applications will open again from February to May 2023.

Make sure to visit the A.S. departments and familiarize yourself with the resources and opportunities available to you. Keep up-to-date with A.S. events, programs, and services through our social media handle @as_sjsu on Insta, TikTok, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube.

Please stay safe on and off campus by making sure to follow COVID-19 guidelines. For more information about SJSU COVID-related matters, visit the Student Health Center page.

With that being said, I hope those who celebrate Thanksgiving have a wonderful holiday with family and loved ones; and for those who don’t, please enjoy and get some rest over our little break this month. Take care of yourselves and make sure to look out for one another. Spartan Up!
