From the President

Thanks to the generous support of our community, I'm proud to share that we set a new fundraising record of $537,000 at the 28th Annual Brunch on the Bay, the marquee benefit event for USF's Sarasota-Manatee campus.

In addition to supporting student scholarships, this year's brunch raised funds to support the construction of a new nursing/STEM building. This facility will be transformational for Sarasota-Manatee as it will double the size of the nursing program on the campus, launch new majors and help meet local demand for more nurses, business professionals, scientists and engineers. The project is being planned at the same time as the campus prepares for the construction of a new housing and student center complex, which is scheduled to open in 2024.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for some delicious cuisine and to celebrate the campus in this exciting era of growth and expansion.

Updates

• Last week, we were delighted to host the Florida Board of Governors in downtown Tampa at USF Health's Morsani College of Medicine and Heart Institute — a state-of-the-art facility that brings us closer to our university’s primary teaching hospital, Tampa General Hospital. This was a fantastic opportunity to share about USF's strong and growing presence in downtown Tampa and the rapid growth of the Morsani College of Medicine's education, research and clinical care activities.

• I was proud to join USF Athletics and the Office of Veteran Success to honor our veterans and first responders at last weekend's Salute to Service football game at Raymond James Stadium. As our Bulls played SMU, we thanked past and present members of the military for their service, sacrifice and everything they do to support our community. At the game, I also had the pleasure of hosting Major Gen. David S. Doyle and his staff from U.S. Central Command.

• Speaking of football, last Wednesday our Bulls held their first practice in the new indoor practice facility, a game-changing addition to USF’s athletics program that will allow our student-athletes to keep training — rain or shine. Thank you to our donors and fans for your generous support of the IPF, and a special thanks to the many employees who helped with fundraising, planning and building this facility. None of this would be possible without you.

• Our USF community was well represented at the 2022 Tampa Bay Heart Walk. This year, USF's teams raised more than $15,000 to support the American Heart Association and its fight against heart disease and strokes. Thank you to everyone who joined us for this great event and to Bill McCausland, who leads the USF Alumni Association, for organizing our university's involvement with this great cause.

As we approach the arrival of Thanksgiving, I’d like to thank you, our USF family, for all you do to make USF a university on the rise. I hope the holiday weekend gives you an opportunity to relax, recharge and spend time with your loved ones. When we return, I look forward to seeing you at our annual Holiday Open House, scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 1, from 4-6 p.m. at the Lifsey House on USF’s Tampa campus.

Boundless Bulls

Rio Tate joined the U.S. Air Force to help pay for college. After completing his degree while on active duty, the Tillman scholar is now working to advance our knowledge about dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

Boundless Bulls is a collection of stories about what truly makes USF great – the people. It is a focus on our community footprint, our impact and the trajectory of where we can go together.
