Dear Missy,
When I was a counselor at Jewish summer camp, being able to do your own laundry was a very important skill. People were always asking — Should I use a dryer sheet?
Of course, doing laundry is just one of the many skills students need for college. Another important life skill for college and beyond? Creating one’s own Jewish traditions and gaining the confidence to host friends for a meal or holiday celebration. Our Jew-It Yourself Initiative (JIY) gives students the opportunity to do just that for Shabbat and Jewish holidays. WashU Hillel provides the resources, support, and funds to help students host meaningful gatherings in whatever ways work for them.
In the coming weeks, our team looks forward to more students bringing their friends together for Shabbat, Passover Seders, and more! If your student is interested in hosting a JIY gathering, please have them reach out to me at hannah@washuhillel.org.
Sincerely,
Hannah Rubin-Schlanksy
Assistant Director
