Walkathon 2022 - Fenix Renace - Thank you!!!!
THANK YOU to the parent/student/alumni volunteers, the Puesta del Sol PTA, and the teachers and staff who helped make the 2022 Walkathon a smashing success!
Our students have so far raised over $33,000 in pledges! Awards will be presented to the the top walkers in each grade later this fall.

October Passport Check
Wednesday, 10/26 in the Library!
October 26th is Passport check day! If your child wants to complete the Australia Special Itinerary worksheet, they can turn it in on check day for a small prize. Please volunteer, if you are available!

PTA's Annual Pumpkin Bash
Friday, October 28th | 6:00-8:00pm
Puesta del Sol Elementary
You are invited to the PTA's Annual Fall Pumpkin Bash, a fun family event! It will be an exciting evening of DJ music, games, prizes, pumpkin decorating contest, trunk or treat, celebrating Día de los Muertos and more! Get in the spirit and wear your costume - no masks or weapons, please.
Admission to this event is free. Food and treats will be available.
This is not a drop-off event. The playground will be closed.
- Bring a pumpkin for the Pumpkin Decorating Contest. Prizes will be awarded!
- Sign up to decorate your trunk for Trunk or Treat!
- Sign up to volunteer! We need YOU to help make this event a success!

Art Appreciation Volunteer Meeting
Are you interested in helping with Art Appreciation?
We will be having an Art Appreciation volunteer meeting on Tuesday 10/18 at 9:15 in the PTA Office. We will go over all the details of getting to work in the class with students, where to find materials and get art lesson plans from. Come meet an artsy crew, nosh on yummy snacks and sip on hot coffee. It'll be fun!
For those of you who cannot make it, we are tentatively planning on hosting a Zoom meeting at a future date. In the mean time, please reach out to Alycia and Natalie at artappreciation@puestadelsolpta.org with any questions.

Unity Day
The community at Puesta del Sol will join together against bullying on Unity Day, Wednesday, October 19. Students and staff will WEAR ORANGE to show unity for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion and to send a visible message that no child should ever experience bullying.

Room Parents
Changes to Grade-Level Fund Collection!
This year, grade-level Room Parents will solicit donations from their class families, pool the donations, and then split their collected funds equally between the classes in their grade. Room Parents use these contributions to help cover the costs of class celebrations, classroom supplies and/or teacher gifts. Please contact your child(ren)'s Room Parents or the Puesta del Sol Room Parent Coordinators (roomparentcoordinator@puestadelsolpta.org) if you would like more information.

NEW Bellevue Family Hub for Family Assistance and Community Volunteer Opportunity
This last summer, the NEW Bellevue Family Hub opened to provide families with a place to meet with trained volunteers who can connect them to resources for:
-Clothing assistance
-Rent assistance
-BSD school support and more
The Bellevue Family Hub located at Highland Middle School (15027 NE Bel-Red Road) is a joint partnership between the Bellevue School District and Bellevue LifeSpring, and is open to ALL Bellevue School District families.
If you or someone you know needs assistance, their hours are:
Tuesdays: 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Wednesdays: 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Hispanic Latinx Heritage Month
Each year, we observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.
The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September 18, respectively. We also observe Día de la Raza, Indigenous People's Day, on October 10.
The 2022 Hispanic Heritage Month Observance theme is: “Unidos: Inclusivity for a Stronger Nation.” The theme encourages us to ensure that all voices are represented and welcomed to help build stronger communities and a stronger nation.

Disability Awareness
October is Disability History and Acceptance Month.
Puesta del Sol staff recommend the book Just Ask / Solo Pregunta by Sonia Sotomayor to raise awareness and foster conversations about disability acceptance with your children. This book and other recommended reading are available through the King County Library.

Dear Parents and Families,
I’m sending my sincere gratitude for making our Book Fair an outstanding success!
Thanks to your contributions, we raised almost $5,000 for our school, which we’ll use to purchase award books for the library. We also collected more than $200 for All for Books™, a program turning Book Fair donations into books for children who cannot afford them.

Mental Health: November 8, 2022

Join our mental health experts for a timely and important discussion of the work of the Mental Health Assistance Team. This crucial program is found at all 30 schools in our district. Last year, over 6600 students were screened and hundreds of students benefitted from proactive interventions, including access to mental health counselors in their schools.

Hello everyone!
My name is Danilo Gasca Silva. I’m 21 years old, and I’m from Colombia. Currently, I am a student of foreign languages at the University of Tolima. Furthermore, I’m a folk dancer and
a traditional music singer (not a famous one) in some groups at my university. What I’m most passionate about in life is being able to share with children, make them laugh, play with them, and see their growth with all the opportunities and benefits presented to them through education. I love reading (I’m a big fan of Harry Potter stories), traveling, cooking, studying medicine and eating sweets because I’m a very gluttonous guy, especially with chocolate.
I hope that we can work together and learn many new things that allow us to grow as human beings. For my part, I can assure you that I’m completely willing to learn from you in the best possible way and I hope that you can have a great example and learn through my work.

I'm 26 years old. I enjoy participating in recreational activities and playing soccer. I like to be part of the teaching process as I also learn along the way. My name is Erika Alcira Rivas Portillo. I am 27 years-old, I am 170 cm tall, and my favorite color is green. I am from San Vicente, El Salvador. I come from a city where people love music since the most important music bands of the country were born over here. Maybe it is the main reason because I love dancing and listening to music whenever I can. I also love watching movies, cooking, and going out with my friends and family. Recently, I finished my bachelor of education in the English language. It has allowed me to work with kids and young ages. A curious fact about me is that I am a coffee and animal lover.

I’ve worked with kids during my years of student, so it’s time to face this new opportunity to share my language and culture to all of you!
