Treasure Church-wide Worship

and Study Series

“Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” Matthew 6:21

Treasure, written by UMC pastor Jacob Armstrong invites us all to explore Jesus’ radical message about our treasure and our hearts from the Sermon on the Mount.

Grab a copy of the Treasure Devotional at the Book Resource Table. Week 2: The Problem with Two Masters Starts October 10. Daily readings take about 5-7 minutes each. Please consider participating in one of the Treasure study groups listed below.

Over the next four weeks, we will look at the many ways our treasure (time, energy, money) affects our hearts. We will consider how financial challenges in our personal lives affect our relationships with God and others. We will see how giving helps to determine the way we feel and act. If you have stress related to money or feel there may be more that God is calling you to do with your resources, this will be a helpful study.

At the end of the four weeks, we will have the opportunity to make personal commitments of giving for the upcoming year. More details on this in the coming weeks.

We look forward to an exciting month considering our treasures and God’s treasure.

5 Eco-Friendly Home Maintenance Tips for Fall

Autumn is a great opportunity to reduce your carbon footprint, save energy, and even cut down on your utility bill.

1. Start a Compost Pile

Start a compost pile with fallen leaves, lawn clippings, leftover vegetables, and garden cleanup. Chop them up to speed up the decomposition process. Moisten the pile slightly, and then just let it be, turning the pile every month.

2. Check Your House for leaks.

Ensure that cold air stays out of your home and warm air stays in. Check your house, inside and out, for any leaks or drafts, paying particular attention to windows and doors, and other areas that might need attention.

3. Use Human-Powered Tools

Fall chores can involve lawn mowers, leaf blowers, and rototillers that release CO2 fumes. Garden equipment engines cause 5 percent of the nation’s air pollution, so use your rake and shovel when you can.

4. Inspect Your Heating System

Ensure your heater is ready to go; you may get a professional to inspect your heater. You can replace the filter in your furnace and clean your ducts yourself, to improve your heating system’s efficiency and save energy.

5. Clean with Eco-Friendly Products

When cold weather confines us inside, the inside air can become polluted. Clean your house using non-toxic, eco-friendly products. For example, a mix of baking soda and warm water can be used as an all-purpose cleaner.
