Community Services Update

November 2023

Grateful for Our Staff, Residents, & Partners!

November is a time that many of us begin to reflect on the past year - the accomplishments we celebrated, the challenges we faced, and the people who shared these experiences along the way. At Atlantic Housing, our reflections are accompanied by gratitude and inspiration to finish out the year strong. The people in our communities give meaning to our mission and work, our staff makes it happen, and our community services partners help expand our impact beyond what we could do on our own. Read on to see some great things that are happening with Atlantic Housing as this year draws to a close.

Community Engagement Associate Valerie Martinez and Assistant Community Manager Tania Gutierrez organized a fall event at Silver Leaf Villas in Ft. Worth, Texas. Residents enjoyed good food and building connections with their neighbors. Local police officer and community partner Cinthia also joined in on the activities. Residents and local vendors voted for the best Patio Halloween Decoration winners, and the children enjoyed making slime, playing Jenga, and coloring.

The Waters at Oakbrook team hosted an on-site Halloween party for their residents in Summerville, South Carolina. Community Engagement Associate Kandyce Gardner reported that "the kids had a great time competing in games, being in their costumes, winning raffles and eating pizza."

Spring Grove received turkeys from Loaves and Fishes of Greenville, South Carolina, and the management team picked up some additional turkeys for distribution to residents in need.

Members from Taylor First Baptist Church also began offering after-school tutoring for students at Spring Grove.

Transforming Communities Through Partnerships

Testimonial by Pastor Ted Hambrick, The Super Life Program

The Super Life program started working with the Atlantic Housing Foundation in 2008 when we pastored the Beaufort Nazarene Church across from an AHF property and the Beaufort jail. Children, teens and families had two major times a week to attend Super Life events. Now we have monthly events at Waters at BerryHill and Waters at Magnolia Bay, plus events in neighborhoods not owned by AHF. We teach and train the Super Life program to other organizations across the United States.

We continue to be impressed and excited about our partnership with the Atlantic Housing Foundation. Several leadership members and local neighborhood staff members have helped us so many different ways as we provide services for children, teens and families! Sandie Montgomery ( Berryhill), Christina Mulder (Magnolia Bay), La Toya Jones (Admin Leadership) ,and Michael Nguyen (Admin) continue to be available for us to help local families.

Our favorite part of Atlantic Housing is still the scholarships for college educations and rent reductions for families whose children are honor roll students! The Super Life Values we teach are: Rules, Respect, Responsibility, Relationship with the Lord, Love of Jesus, Education, Education, Education!

We hope to influence children, teens and families to think about their futures. We want them to think about college, technology training, ROTC, aerospace studies and certificate programs which will help them get tech careers and they can work with excellent jobs to finish their 4-year degrees.
