Bobcat E-Envelope

October 6, 2022

Hi SPS Families,

Fall is upon us and we have been blessed with the nice weather over the last few days. We have been busy this week over here at the school!

We had a visit from the Roberts Park Fire Department today to talk to the students about fire safety. The kids had fun learning about the different gear the firefighters wear and why they wear it, different safety tips, and the importance of working smoke detectors inside their homes. Some of our younger grades even wore firefighter hats to the assembly!

We also had a fun fall sports pep rally today in the gym to celebrate our girls basketball teams. The kids were enthusiastic and loud (which was what we wanted!). The different grades played games in front of the school and winners received some prizes. A "shout out" to our student council team who ran the pep rally today! We hope to see a lot of our families at the homecoming basketball games this Saturday! Our 5th grade team plays at 10:00am and our 8th grade team plays at 10:50am. The theme for the games is blue and white. GO BOBCATS!

Please remember that there is no student attendance at school tomorrow, Friday. Teachers will be working tomorrow at various schools around town, looking at our I-Ready data and talking with other members of our Archdiocesan school communities on ideas and objectives for the school year.

We also have no school on Monday for Columbus Day.

Thanks again for all that you do for our school community and have a great 4-day weekend!

Dear Parishioners,

How do we, the people of the United States, value our ability to vote?

The first day for early voting will begin shortly for the November 8th general elections. How many people in the Chicagoland area will go out and vote? How do we deal with the questions that face our country? How can we be an example to the people around the world? Where do we need to improve?

Does our faith in Jesus Christ help us to be good citizens? Does character and integrity matter? Is “people power” enough? Is it important to be guided by a deeper reality? Should we let capitalism determine the economy without any intervention?

In many democratic countries, as in our own country, political activists, professional politicians and amateur community groups challenge the status quo. There are people sitting at a bar talking politics as well as people with great minds debating these questions at the most prestigious universities. Some people think short term and others think in grand visionary perspectives, keeping in mind the common good rather than only thinking about what is good for their own wallet. All this is alive and moving...

Our Faith in Action

We celebrated the Feast of the Archangels on September 28, 2022 and were joined by some of our city leaders, including Mayor Howley and City Clerk Dee Catizone , police officers, firefighters, and paramedics at morning Mass.

It was a great sight to see, the St. Patricia community honoring these brave and dedicated people, as they continue to protect us and our neighbors. Fr. Meany offered a blessing of protection in honor of St. Michael. May God bless them all!
