“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house.”

Matthew 5:14-16

One of the most beautiful views at Bethlehem Lutheran Church is the upper view from the Gymnasium windows. This is the pinnacle point of our current building where you see the city skyline draped like a red carpet, ready to be stepped on by the people of God as they are on the move. Each house, building, business, and attraction tells a different story and weave together to create the ornate tapestry of this beautiful place we call St. Louis.

From that point of view, you get the feeling that Bethlehem is in the center of the city. The Light of the city set on a Hill. The place that gives light to dark places—bringing the light of Jesus into homes, schools, basketball courts, ministry centers, programs, and every room that the light hits.

This is the high call of Bethlehem. To be the light of the city—to give light to the House of God.

Blessings as you read about how we have honored Jesus the Light this month.

January Updates!

Installation of Katrina Miller

We kicked off our January with a memorable event—the installation of our new Worship Arts Director, Katrina Miller! The day was filled with worship and celebration as we welcomed Katrina into our community. With her passion and dedication, Katrina has integrated into our various musical groups and choirs.

Worship lies at the core of our identity here at BLC, and having Katrina onboard has strengthened our commitment to providing meaningful worship experiences for all, whether they join us in person or online. Her enthusiasm for worship ensures that each service is focused on Jesus.

Chapel Offerings

Thank you to Word of Life, Zion, and Immanuel Lutheran Schools for donating your chapel offerings to help support our CCLS school at BLC! Between the three schools, we received $6,000! These gifts allow our school to operate. It is a blessing to be in community with so many schools in our area. If your school would like to sign up to support click HERE.

Your generous donations are essential to upholding BLC's mission and ministry. With your ongoing contributions, we cultivate a welcoming space for our community. Your consistent support empowers us to effect positive change, benefiting both our congregation and the wider North St. Louis Area.

On-Site Seminary Class

At the beginning of the month, Pastor Bolling, along with many of our other leaders, got to help teach a week-long on-site class for second-year students from Concordia Seminary. In this class, the students got to experience our ministry, firsthand. The week was an opportunity for them to see more of our city, ask real questions, and better understand what it means to be the hands and feet of Jesus. It was a great week, and we are thankful for the continued relationship with our Seminary, and being able to provide these teaching opportunities

Children's and Youth Choir

The Children's Choir and Youth Worship Team have been preparing new music as well as their hearts and minds to lead worship in the upcoming weeks! During our time together on Wednesday nights, we not only work on musical selections, but we also take time to discuss the Biblical context of the words we are singing and have student-led discussions and prayers. Getting to know each other in this way has been a blessing for everyone! These kids have amazing hearts, and it is an honor to work with them as we look forward to future performances and opportunities to praise God together in song.

How You Can Support!

As we look ahead to what the Lord has put on our hearts, we know that it involves all of us coming together. We are thankful for any way in which you support Bethlehem.

Consistent giving provides BLC with the ability to look further down the line with confidence in our financial state. You can give a one-time sum, or, through our website, you can set up recurring gifts.

Success Story

My success story is about a young lady named Nova. Nova is a sweet and outgoing young lady and she is always up to do something new. When I first started here, like most of the kids, Nova did not know how to pray. So My daughter and I would pray and have everyone say it after us. This week Nova asked to pray for us and she did a great job. Way to go, Nova!

BLC Fence

On Sunday, during his sermon, Pastor Bolling talked to our congregation about what has happened to our property in the last few weeks. In two separate situations, we had cars run into our fences. None of the drivers involved had insurance which means that we are financially responsible for the $20,000-$40,000 in repairs.

During the second instance, there were significant medical needs for those involved. When they heard the noise, our people ran outside and jumped into action. It is a blessing to serve in St. Louis and God has every situation in His hands. If you are able, consider assisting us in paying for the repairs to our property.

Basketball

Our boy's basketball team had a busy January! In the last month, they played against Lutheran North, Immanuel St. Charles, as well as many other schools. They also had the opportunity to travel to Chicago to play games and see the Bulls play! This trip was only possible because of the gracious donation by Epic Ministries! The boys are so thankful to have gotten to take such a memorable trip! Thank you for supporting them all season!
