'The Bridge' is officially named!
Robert Parker Coffin Bridge
|
|
On September 22, 2022, 'The Bridge' was officially named the Robert Parker Coffin Bridge. Among many of his accomplishments and contributions to the Village, Robert Parker Coffin was the designer of the wooden cover to the Villages steel truss bridge.
Village President Bill Jacob was joined by Trustees Kritzmire, O'Connor, O'Reilly, Michaud, and Tinucci at the Bridge Dedication Ceremony. Attendees also included family members of Robert Parker Coffin and Maria Rodriguez. Other elected officials in attendance included State Senator McConchie and State Representative Bos.
In recognition of the life and dedication of Maria Rodriguez and Barbara Reed Turner, trees will be planted in their honor in Buffalo Creek Park. Residents are encouraged to visit the new park. There is an entrance by the Robert Parker Coffin Bridge.

Seeing daffodils in the Spring is part of a long-time Long Grove tradition. The daffodil bulbs are for planting along the public right-of-way.
The Fall planting of daffodil bulbs has been a part of the Village fall routine for over 40 years, and they are a small way that residents can help beautify the Village streets.

Lake County Forest Preserve Tick Prevention and Safety Reminder
|
Ticks are commonly found in wooded areas and tall grasses, just waiting to get picked up by anything that passes, including you. To minimize the chances of picking up a tick while in your preserves, here are a few tips:
- Limit exposure to ticks by steering clear of tall grass, shrubs or leaf litter.
- Before heading out, tuck shirts into pants and tuck pants into socks.
- While in a preserve, walk in the center of trails to avoid contact with tall plants.
- Remove any ticks on your clothing before returning to your car or home.

Illinois Route 53 Corridor Updates from Midwest Sustainability
|
|
Midwest Sustainability, Long Grove, and the RT 53 Parcels
The Midwest Sustainability Group is a grassroots organization focused on environmental stewardship and has been working with the Village to advocate against the Illinois Route 53 expansion. On behalf of Long Grove and many Lake County communities, Midwest has been lobbying the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) to remove the RT53 expansion from the 5-year Regionally Significant projects list. CMAP is our region's comprehensive planning organization covering the northeastern Illinois counties of Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, and Will.
Now that the expansion is removed from the project list, the next step in preserving the land is to lobby the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) to transfer ownership of the land parcels to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR). It is the mission of IDNR to manage, conserve and protect Illinois' natural, recreational and cultural resources, further the public's understanding and appreciation of those resources, and promote the education, science, and public safety of Illinois' natural resources for present and future generations.
Since the RT53 expansion is no longer a priority for CMAP, the Midwest Sustainability Group hopes to gather enough support to turn the 12-mile open space corridor into a state park with a continuous nature trail. You can learn about this project at: https://www.greencorridorcoalition.org/
