Travelers should expect potential delays when traveling in this area, and are encouraged to visit 511virginia.org for current information on travel conditions and work zones in Virginia. All construction-related work and closures are subject to change based on weather and other factors.

• Daytime and nighttime single lane closures on I-495 North and South.
• Nighttime ramp closure from Georgetown Pike to I-495 North with detour in place.
• Daytime flagging operations on Live Oak Drive, Balls Hill Road, and Old Dominion Drive.

Single right lane closures on northbound I-495 between Lewinsville Road and George Washington Memorial Parkway for drainage, embankment, excavation, and bridge work.

Monday, September 25, through Friday, September 29, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Alternating single mobile lane closures on northbound I-495 throughout the project corridor for traffic management.

Monday, September 25, through Friday, September 29, 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Alternating single mobile lane closures on northbound I-495 throughout the project corridor as needed for maintenance work, traffic management, and materials and equipment delivery.

I-495 South

Monday, September 22, through Thursday, September 28, 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Single right lane closures on southbound I-495 between Georgetown Pike and Dulles Toll Road for drainage, excavation, embankment, and bridge work.

LIVE OAK DRIVE

Monday, September 25, through Friday, September 29, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Live Oak Drive will be reduced to a single lane on the bridge over I-495 to accommodate barrier placement. Flagging operations alternating single traffic lanes will be in effect.

BALLS HILL ROAD

Monday, September 25, through Friday, September 29, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Balls Hill Road will be reduced to a single lane at the Live Oak Drive intersection to accommodate waterline work. Flagging operations alternating single traffic lanes will be in effect.

GEORGETOWN PIKE INTERCHANGE

Friday, September 29, 11:59 p.m. to 5 a.m. and Saturday, September 30, 11 p.m. to 4 a.m.

The ramp from Georgetown Pike to northbound I-495 will be closed for drainage work. Motorists should follow the posted detour. If needed, the work will take place Sunday, October 1, 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. Learn more about the closure and detour here.

OLD DOMINION DRIVE

Monday, September 25, through Friday, September 29, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Old Dominion Drive will be reduced to a single lane on the bridge over I-495 to accommodate clearing work. Flagging operations alternating single traffic lanes will be in effect.

DULLES CORRIDOR INTERCHANGE 

Dulles Toll Road

Monday, September 25, through Thursday, September 28, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Single left lane closures on westbound Dulles Toll Road (267 Connector) between Route 123 and the I-495 interchange for drainage, embankment, excavation, and bridge work.

New Exit Ramp for I-495 North Exit to Dulles Toll Road

Reminder: Motorists traveling on northbound I-495 heading for westbound Dulles Toll Road must take a new, earlier exit. The new exit ramp is located about one-third of a mile ahead of the old, closed Exit 45. To facilitate this new traffic pattern, I-495 has been reduced from four to three lanes for approximately one-half mile near the Dulles Corridor interchange. George Washington Memorial Parkway West at I-495

Reminder: The ramp from westbound George Washington Memorial Parkway to southbound I-495 (Capital Beltway) was reduced from two lanes to one lane to make room for a construction vehicle haul route that will be separated from traffic by a physical barrier. This traffic change will be in effect throughout construction on the 495 NEXT project. Learn more about the traffic change here.
