Dear Shawnee UMC Family,

Please join us for Worship

this Sunday

in-person or on Facebook Live at 10:30am.

The Scripture for Pastor Changsu's message will be:

Luke 15:1-7

The Parable of the Lost Sheep

1 Now all the tax-collectors and sinners were coming near to listen to him. 2 And the Pharisees and the scribes were grumbling and saying, ‘This fellow welcomes sinners and eats with them.’

3 So he told them this parable: 4 ‘Which one of you, having a hundred sheep and losing one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness and go after the one that is lost until he finds it? 5 When he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders and rejoices. 6 And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbours, saying to them, “Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost.” 7 Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous people who need no repentance.

The Tuesday Lectionary Group invites you to share some of your favorite scriptures, which we will then share with all members.

Please email them to:

Here are this week's scriptures for study and meditation:

Romans 15:7-12 So welcome each other, in the same way Christ has also welcomed you, for God's glory. I'm saying that Christ became a servant of those who are circumcised for the sake of God's truth, in order to confirm the promises given to the ancestors, and so that the Gentiles may glorify God for his mercy. As it is written, Because of this I will confess you among the Gentiles, and I will sing praises to your name. And again, it says, Rejoice, Gentiles, with his people. And again, Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles, and all the people should sing his praises. And again, Isaiah says, There will be a root of Jesse, who will also rise to rule the Gentiles. The Gentiles will place their hope in them.

Isaiah 19:21-25 The Lord will make himself known to the Egyptians; the Egyptians will know the Lord on that day. They will worship with sacrifices and offerings, making solemn promises to the Lord and fulfilling them. The Lord will strike Egypt; striking and then healing. They will return to the Lord, who will hear their pleas and heal them. On that day, there will be a highway from Egypt to Assyria. The Assyrians will come to Egypt, and the Egyptians to Assyria; The Egyptians will worship with the Assyrians. On that day, Israel will be the third along with Egypt and Assyria, a blessing at the center of the world. The Lord of heavenly forces will pronounce this blessing: Bless Egypt my people, and Assyria my handiwork, and Israel my inheritance.

Psalm 62:5-10 Oh, I must find rest in God only, because my hope comes from him! Only God is my rock and my salvation--my stronghold!--I will not be shaken. My deliverance and glory depend on God. God is my strong rock. My refuge is in God. All you people:Trust in him at all times! Pour out your hearts before him! God is our refuge! Human beings are nothing but a breath. Human beings are nothing but lies. They don't even register on a scale; taken all together they are lighter than a breath! Don't trust in violence; don't set false hopes on robbery. When wealth bears fruit, don't set your heart on it. God has spoken one thing--make that two things--that I myself have heard: that strength belongs to God, and faithful love comes from you, my Lord--and that you will repay everyone according to their deeds.

HEIFER CHRISTMAS CARD PROJECT

The Gift That Keeps Giving

We will be selling Heifer Project animals again this year in the Narthex from November 26 through December 17.

For those people who don’t know how Heifer Projects works, animals are given to people in third world countries, but the neat part of the program is that they are required to pass an offspring on to someone else the next year, so the gift continues to give. Heifer Project also teaches people in third world countries better farming techniques, etc.

You can give an animal in the name of a relative or friend. We have cards that you can give or send to the friend or relative telling them of your gift.

BOOK CLUB

We are meeting in the ANNEX on December 7 at 1pm. Tammy will lead our discussion of The Noel Diary by Richard Evans. Bring a dozen cookies for our cookie exchange!

Our next gathering is January 25. Our book is Becoming Mrs. Lewis by Patty Callahan Henry. Nancy Potter Wallace will lead.

All are welcome!
