Epistle Reading: St. Paul's Letter to the Hebrews 11:24-26, 32-40
Brethren, by faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter, choosing rather to share ill-treatment with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. He considered abuse suffered for the Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he looked to the reward.
And what more shall I say? For time would fail me to tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, of David and Samuel and the prophets -- who through faith conquered kingdoms, enforced justice, received promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched raging fire, escaped the edge of the sword, won strength out of weakness, became mighty in war, put foreign enemies to flight. Women received their dead by resurrection. Some were tortured, refusing to accept release, that they might rise again to a better life. Others suffered mocking and scourging, and even chains and imprisonment. They were stoned, they were sawn in two, they were killed with the sword; they went about in skins of sheep and goats, destitute, afflicted, ill-treated -- of whom the world was not worthy -- wandering over deserts and mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.
And all these, though well attested by their faith, did not receive what was promised, since God had foreseen something better for us, that apart from us they should not be made perfect.
Gospel Reading John 1:43-51
At that time, Jesus decided to go to Galilee. And he found Philip and said to him, "Follow me." Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. Philip found Nathanael, and he said to him, "We have found him of whom Moses in the law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph." Nathanael said to him, "Can anything good come out of Nazareth?" Philip said to him, "Come and see." Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and said of him, "Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!" Nathanael said to him, "How do you know me?" Jesus answered him, "Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you." Nathanael answered him, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!" Jesus answered him, "Because I said to you, I saw you under the fig tree, do you believe? You shall see greater things than these." And he said to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man."

The 2023-2024 Undergraduate and Graduate Scholarships are available.
Applications and instructions for six (6) scholarships administered by the Office of the Chancellor of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America are available for awards to be made for the 2023-2024 academic year. The George & Naouma (Gioule) Gioles Scholarship and the Katina John Malta Scholarship are for undergraduate studies, and the Paleologos Scholarship is awarded for graduate work of a non-theological nature. Additionally, the S. Gregory Taylor Scholarship, and the Christos and Georgia Trakatellis Scholarship, are available for those pursuing graduate level work. Students matriculating at Hellenic College-Holy Cross School of Theology are eligible to apply for the James J. Tembelis Scholarship.
Each of these scholarships was established through generous gifts from dedicated Greek Orthodox Christians who wanted to provide financial assistance towards the education of young people from our Orthodox Christian community.

Once again our Church will be participating in our annual “Project Mexico” trip to St. Innocent Orthodox Orphanage in Rosarito, Mexico. Our team will include adults as well as GOYA members who wish to dedicate a week of their lives to helping a family in need. This year’s 2023 mission trip will be from July 11– 17th.
Each year our team builds a house from the ground up for a family that otherwise would not have a home. We will gather with groups from other Orthodox Churches from around the country and stay at St. Innocent Orthodox Orphanage. While at St. Innocent’s, we share in fellowship with the boys of the orphanage and the other groups that are participating in the home building program. We participate in various programs and events that are offered throughout the week. Every morning we set out to our work site and in just one short week we will have completed building an entire home for a needy family! Our evenings are filled with informative talks, discussion time, hanging out at the bonfire and or just meeting new friends.
We are presently taking applications for team members and there is a limited number of spaces available.
If you are interested in joining us this year, and or for more information on how you can help, please contact Fr. George Hazlaris at FrGeorge@gocoos.org or call the Church office (914) 967-2838.

Participants for the Junior and Senior Division must register online to participate in the Oratorical Festival, please CLICK HERE to register.
To view the 2023 Topics for Junior and Senior Division, please CLICK HERE.
Topics for Elementary Division
The purpose of the Elementary Division is to offer children the opportunity to express their feelings about their Faith and Church while gaining confidence and self-esteem. In addition, it provides an incentive to children for later participation in the Junior and Senior Divisions.
Suggested topics:
Jesus Christ Love, Being Kind, Lighting a Candle, Helping Others, The Cross, Prayer, A Smile, My Church, Church School, The Bible, My Family, My Favorite Icon
Each talk should last 30–90 seconds. However, strict timing should not be observed. For instance, one child may offer only two or three sentences, and another may offer considerably more. Also, if a child feels more comfortable using an icon, picture or poster as part of the talk, this is permissible.
To confirm your interest, please CLICK HERE to email Angie Bissell by March 1, 2023
