If you're a Betsy alum, we hope you'll join us in Atlanta for BMGI, November 14-16. We have lots of great programming in store for you — download the 2022 BMGI agenda to check it out! 2022 Diversity Town Hall

As part of its 2022 Leadership Conference, The WICT Network held a Joint Town Hall — presented in partnership with the National Association for Multi-ethnicity in Communications (NAMIC) and supported by the Walter Kaitz Foundation — to share the executive summary of its 2022 AIM/PAR Workplace Diversity Survey.

The survey illuminates the changes in the diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) landscape for participating media, entertainment and technology companies since the last report in 2019. The session brought diversity and inclusion experts together to discuss the top-line findings. Panelists included:

  • Rhonda Nesmith Crichlow, SVP & Chief Diversity Officer, Charter Communications
  • Loren Hudson, SVP & Chief Diversity Officer, Comcast Cable
  • Ann McGlennen, Chief Human Resources Officer, Midco
  • Kia Painter, EVP & Chief People Officer, Cox Communications
  • Shebani Patel, Partner, People Analytics, PwC
  • Aisha Thomas-Petit, Chief People & Diversity Officer, AMC Networks

“As a woman of color, a journalist who’s always been in the cable business...this is always one of my favorite events to participate in, really to gauge the progress that we’ve made in our business as well as confront some of those challenges head on,” said CNN Correspondent Suzanne Malveaux, six-time Diversity Town Hall moderator.

The panelists each brought unique perspectives to the table, opening up about experiences from their personal and professional lives. Suzanne opened the session by sharing a deeply personal story about her earliest experiences with systemic racism, a time when her family, while on a road trip, was pulled over and brought to the police station with no explanation. Her father then had to use all the cash they had intended to use for their road trip to get released from police custody.

A passionate and informative discussion followed with Suzanne asking panelists to weigh in about their take on the survey results. During the session, she asked panelists what their hopes were for the post-pandemic workplace. “I hope that sense of compassion, resilience and overall decency for people will continue," Kia Painter said in response.

The WICT Network Celebrates Native American Heritage Month

November is Native American Heritage Month, also commonly known as American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month, a time when we celebrate and honor the cultures, histories, and traditions of our nation's indigenous peoples and thank them for the important contributions they have made, and continue to make, to our society.

Our industry grows and thrives when we have as many diverse and varied perspectives, backgrounds and experiences at the table as possible — one of the many reasons The WICT Network is dedicated to continually striving to increase diversity, equity and inclusion at all rungs of the leadership ladder across our industry.
