The League of Chicago Theatres is excited to announce the return of the Broadway In Chicago Emerging Theatre & Backstage Champion Awards at our 2024 Spotlight Gala.

The Emerging Theatre Award was created to highlight young theatres in Chicago that have demonstrated artistic excellence. Applications for theatres are now open and can be submitted HERE. The deadline to submit is September 6, 2024.

The Backstage Champion Award recognizes an individual within the Chicago theatre industry who has made a positive impact on our community and is not traditionally recognized. Nominations for this award are being accepted and can be submitted HERE.

We are now accepting submissions for SEPTEMBER shows/performance dates for Youth Night at the Theatre! Submissions for September are due by August 23.

As part of Youth Night at the Theatre, select shows and performances will offer a free ticket for a child (18 years and under) with the purchase of one adult ticket. Tickets are purchased directly through the theatre using the promo code LOCTYOUTH, set up as a Buy One, Get One Free ticket promotion. 

If your show is already listed for August and you would like to list new dates for September, please email September dates to hayley@chicagoplays.com. You do not need to resubmit the form.

Terry Guest and Chicago Children’s Theatre were announced as recipients of the Joyce Foundation’s 2024 Joyce Awards, receiving a landmark grant of $100,000 to support a new commission, including $30,000 allocated for an artist stipend. Supported by the $100,000 grant, playwright and teaching artist Terry Guest will create Milo Imagines the World, a new musical for Chicago Children’s Theatre that addresses the impact of incarceration on families while fostering resilience and healing.

Join The Lorraine Hansberry Initiative and Navy Pier for a special sculpture dedication to playwright, journalist, and activist, Lorraine Hansberry. Los Angeles based artist Alison Saar’s sculpture work, entitled To Sit A While, features a figure of Hansberry surrounded by five bronze chairs, each representing a different aspect of her life and work. The life-size chairs are an invitation to the public to do just that: to sit with her and think. More Info HERE.
