SCRA Awards Nearly $4 Million to South Carolina Colleges and Universities

Lectures and term papers won’t be the only things happening in the state’s colleges and universities as faculty and students return this fall. Some will work on life-saving innovations such as cancer vaccines and new ways to treat neurodegenerative diseases. Others will develop hydrogen fuel cells to produce more efficient energy.


This is why the South Carolina Research Authority continues to provide funding to accelerate innovation in South Carolina’s academic institutions. The three-year grant program, SACT (SCRA-Academic Collaboration Team), awarded $3,860,000 to Clemson University, Coastal Carolina University, the College of Charleston, the Medical University of South Carolina, and the University of South Carolina. Austin Saggus Named to Leadership Columbia Class of 2025

Austin Saggus, SCRA Business Operations Manager, on being selected as a member of the Columbia Chamber's Leadership Columbia Class of 2025.


Austin is one of the 60 individuals selected for what will be the 52nd graduating class since the program was founded in 1972. The class will engage in a 10-month curriculum including monthly class day sessions, a retreat, a class project, and a variety of enrichment activities around the area. Read more.

Energy Industry Manager

The Energy Industry Manager is responsible for developing and growing the advanced energy, clean tech, sustainability, and resilience sector for SCRA and aligning with state energy initiatives. They are responsible for leveraging established connections and developing new partnerships to drive innovation in the energy ecosystem. The Energy Industry Manager will identify and facilitate new business opportunities that accelerate energy innovation, technology commercialization and adoption. The manager will collaborate across SCRA Programs, industry and academic partners, and a consortium of public/private entities on established and new energy initiatives including the SC Nexus EDA Tech Hub and NSF Regional Innovation Engine CLEANcarolinas. Learn more and apply.
