Per the request of the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA), the city of Sterling Heights is urging its residents to limit their outdoor water use until further notice. As GLWA continues to work on the repairs to the 120-inch water main break on the regional water system that caused last Saturday’s Boil Water Advisory, limited outdoor water use can help reduce the load on the regional water system and help other surrounding communities possibly lift their Boil Water Advisory sooner.

“We were fortunate to be one of the first communities to have the Boil Water Advisory lifted in Sterling Heights,” said Community Relations Director Melanie Davis. “But water system repairs continue, and we’re asking our residents to be good neighbors and support GLWA’s efforts to get the regional water transmission system back to 100 percent as quickly as possible. If surrounding communities don’t comply, we could risk significant repair delays and even end up on another Boil Water Advisory for Sterling Heights.”

The city of Sterling Heights is leading by example through our action of stopping irrigation at all public facilities and parks, as well as medians along Van Dyke, Utica and M-59.

When the outdoor water restriction request is lifted, the City will notify residents via the City website, social media, SHTV and emergency text/email alerts. If residents haven’t yet signed up for the City’s emergency alerts, they may subscribe at sterling-heights.net/getconnected.
