Dear St. David Families,
Catholic education holds a distinctive and enduring value, playing a crucial role in shaping individuals intellectually, morally, and spiritually. Rooted in the teachings of the Catholic Church, this educational tradition places a strong emphasis on the holistic development of students. Catholic Schools Week is one of my most favorite weeks of the year.
Integration of faith into the fabric of learning is one of the most remarkable aspects of Catholic School. In an interview with the Diocese of Oakland, Ms. Murillo has shared that a part of her identity had to be hidden during her placement at a public school. In a Catholic school, I am allowed to freely express my complete identity as a Catholic, Filipino-American, educational professional woman. I am able to include Jesus' teachings as guiding principles that prioritize empathy and justice. We hope that your St. David student is able to see themselves in Christ's teachings and throughout their lessons.
Catholic education emphasizes the development of the whole person. A shared responsibility within the community of raising the young people in our care extends far beyond the classroom. The first graduating class of St. David School continue to gather in celebration of their lasting friendships and support our school community.
Without the support of community-funding like FACE and BASIC, my family would not have been able to afford Catholic education. It brings me joy that scholarship funds continue to be made available despite our current economic situations. I am grateful for the lifelong lessons and relationships that my Catholic education has gifted me. Thank you for choosing St. David School as your education community.
Thank you!
Yours in faith,
Ms. Medrano
