Summer Work Program Local Speakers Series

LEAP's program team invites professionals each summer from across all sectors and careers to talk to students about their personal journey and their careers. Each Wednesday for 5 weeks, students pick from a selection of 3 - 4 speakers. Each talk lasts one hour.

The impressive speaker roster includes two of LEAP's Board members. Derek Gaskins Chief Marketing Office for Yesway (owned by Brookwood Financial) and Lydia Smyers, V.P Northeast, Americas Enterprise at Microsoft. Mr. Gaskins spoke on marketing and branding using his vast experience working in B2C markets which has included brands from Nabisco, Proctor and Gamble and now Yesway (a chain of convenience stores in the mid-west and southwest).

Ms. Smyers spoke to the students about artificial intelligence giving many their first look at this technology. She spoke on its power, its rapid adoptions as well as the ethical issues surrounding the technology.

Paul Tucker, Essex County District Attorney, spoke about his career in criminal justice from a police officer to Chief of Police, to Salem's state representative to his current elected position as Essex County's D.A.
