Our Communications Committee Needs a New Editor for The Bear Facts

The current Chair of the Alumni Association's Communication Committee is retiring from the Board. That means we need a new editor for the monthly Bear Facts newsletter. This volunteer will work with the Board to identify topics of interest and write them up for publication through our on-line publishing tool.

This job is a fun way to stay in touch with members of all classes and share news of interest to alumni of all ages.

Would you consider helping us? Want to learn more about what is involved? If so, contact Rudy Moeller for more information. Thank you!

2023 Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony Recap

On Saturday, October 14, Ballard recognized some of its many amazing alumni at our 2023 Hall of Fame Induction. With over 150 people in attendance, we celebrated nine of Ballard's finest. Inductees included Lonita Baker (Class of 1999), Tanya Clay House (Class of 1991), Caren Cunningham (Class of 1978), Don Goodwin (long-time track/CC coach) Rosalind Goodwin Joseph (Class of 2001), Steve Gowers (Class of 1972), Bob Lindsay (Class of 1974), Danica Novgorodoff (Class of 1998), and Shirleen Sisney (long-time educator).

Ballard's string quartet entertained attendees as they enjoyed cocktail hour. A silent raffle was held, with all proceeds going to the Ballard Alumni Association Scholarship Fund. Inductee Danica Novgorodoff noted "It was such an honor to share the stage with the other inductees who are an impressive and inspiring group of alumni".

Steve Gowers, the outgoing alumni president, had these words to share. "You could feel the respect everyone had for these inductees. When we took the group photo, Pam and I were heartened by the diversity on the stage. This is what America is meant to be."

If you are interested in serving on a selection committee or event committee for future Hall of Fame events, please contact Kim Barber.

Generous Alumni Contribute New Software to the School

MANY THANKS to a group of generous alumni for their recent contribution to the school.

David & Deborah Behuniak Simon (Class of 1972), Dr. John & Rhonda Rhodes (Class of 1972), Paul & Kathy Taber (Class of 1973), Jeff & Holly Shaw (Class of 1974), Michael & Sally Judah (Class of 1975), Stuart & Michele Ray (Class of 1980) and one anonymous doner underwrote the purchase of Teambuildr weightlifting software to benefit the schools many athletes and the physical education program overall. The gift was based on a request from Andrew Hackney, a physical education teacher and our Track & Field coach. Modest contributions from several source quickly amounted to a meaningful addition to the school.

There are many worthy contribution requests that come to the Alumni Association each year. If you are interested in helping out with future donations, please click on Tony Waits or call him at 502-396-3509.

Support Our Ballard Community with a Contribution to The Annual Fund

While Jefferson County Public Schools funds most of Ballard’s operating expenses, there is a continuing need for new teaching tools, upgraded computers, safety equipment, subsidies for collegiate test, field trips, guest speakers and facilities renovation that falls outside of the typical annual budget. Your tax-deductible contribution will help our undergraduates enjoy a more meaningful high school experience. Please join us in this effort to make Ballard the best public school in Jefferson County.
