Howard County Executive Calvin Ball is seeking community members to serve on the Adult-Use Cannabis Advisory Panel. The deadline to apply for consideration is Friday, August 9th


“With the legalization of adult-use cannabis in Maryland, Howard County is committed to promoting public health, public safety, business, and social and racial equity in the adult-use market. The Adult-use Cannabis Advisory Panel will be a critical partner in that effort,” said Ball.

Healthy Beginnings

Baby Basics (Part 1 and 2)

This workshop offered by Priority Partners, teaches expecting and new parents about caregiving for a newborn(s) from birth to 6 months of age. Join this workshop to learn more about feeding and bathing, changing diapers, safe sleeping, tips for when to call the doctor, self-care and overall well-being. Discover additional resources on lactation and car seat safety.

Parent’s Guide to Challenging Behaviors

The Pyramid Model is a comprehensive, research based approach that considers all the factors that impact a child, family and a child's behavior. Learn how to help decrease negative behaviors from happening and/ or what to do when they do occur. Ask questions and leave with skills and resources that you can use immediately to help you feel more confident in your parenting. For parents of children ages two to eight.

Look Before You Lock

With the summer heat here, residents are reminded to NEVER, EVER leave a child or a pet alone in a car, not even for a minute. 


REMEMBER, a child's body temperature can rise up to five times faster than an adult's and a body temperature of 107 degrees is fatal. As for pets, it takes just 15 minutes for an animal to sustain organ damage or even die from heatstroke.

Survival Guide for the Elementary Years

Changes occur with your child as they grow and develop in the elementary years. Children fluctuate between independence and dependence and the combination can bring a wide range of behavior issues and cause parental frustration.


Learn how to understand and help your 4- to 10-year-old; set the stage to create positive situations for empowerment and pride; and develop consequences that work. Gain strategies to handle oppositional behaviors and learn strategies for better homework habits.

Senior Day at the Fair

Join the Office of Aging and Independence (OAI) at the Howard County Fair on August 6th for Senior Day at the Fair. Adults age 62+ get free all-day admission to the Fair and can enjoy free bingo in the 4-H building, hosted by OAI staff from 1 to 3 p.m.

The Freetown Farm team will host the first-ever “Food by Freetown” event, which will feature fresh food and drinks prepared with ingredients grown on the farm. They will also screen Common Ground, the sequel to the 2020 documentary, Kiss the Ground.

Healthy Minds

National Night Out 2024

Join the Howard County Police Department (HCPD) on Tuesday, August 6th for this year’s National Night Out (NNO). This annual community-building campaign aims to enhance the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement by promoting police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie in an effort to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live.

Howard County Out of the Darkness Walk

Join us for the annual Howard County Out of the Darkness Walk to raise awareness for mental health and suicide prevention. Funds raised will benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and its Maryland Chapter.

Opioid Overdose Response Training
The Howard County Health Department (HCHD) offers free virtual training on Narcan: Register for virtual training.

In-person Narcan training is also available at the HCHD van.
