"I was in the US Navy stationed with marines during the Vietnam war. A lance-corporal was scheduled to have some restorative dentistry. He was petrified. I asked another marine about the patient. I was told that in Vietnam he had been awarded a Bronze Star. He had jumped into a place where there were three Viet Cong. He fought and killed all three probably saving the lives of some Americans.
I went to him and had this conversation. "Corporal, I heard that you received a Bronze Star in Vietnam. Is that true?" He said, "Yes sir." I said, "You jumped into a foxhole and killed three Viet Cong. Is that correct?" Again, he said, "Yes sir".
I then I said, "And you are afraid of me??"
After that we laughed, and his fear left, and we did his dentistry."
