MESSAGE FROM CARRIE WILLIAMSON, PASTORAL ASSOCIATE

Hi, everyone!

I hope that this week’s weather gives you the opportunity to celebrate a brief winter reprieve and enjoy the outdoors. What a pleasant start to the week!

I feel like we are recovering from Advent and Christmas and next week is Lent! We have a lot of opportunities for engagement this Lent. If you’ve never attended our Stations of the Cross, consider making this year THE year. Different ministries act as our prayer leaders which offer a unique experience each week. There are multiple options for confessions and this year we’ve added a daytime offering following our Wednesday daily mass on March 13. If you’re not able to come in the evening, we hope this time will better suit your needs. Be sure to read through the list highlighted below. You can also access these on the parish website and in our bulletin.

We will have a blood drive on February 11. We have 20 openings as of today. The American Red Cross is experiencing an emergency blood shortage and the situation is critical. Please consider donating. You can sign up here: Red Cross Blood Donation

We will be starting a new feature in our Celtic Communicator with a “Staff Spotlight.” Each week we will introduce a member of our Pastoral Team. We will provide a link to their bios on our website but we will also give a fun perspective on who they are. We have an incredible group of ministry leaders who work tirelessly each day to bring us all closer to Jesus Christ.

Have a wonderful week!

Carrie

Fr. Jeff Update

Hello everybody! Just a quick note from this side of my back fusion surgery. I saw my surgeon again this morning and I’m doing very well. The wound is healing fine, although there remains some fluid and soreness. The nerve pain from the back, however, is gone. I am cleared to drive and will begin physical therapy this week. I also look forward to walking my dog, Jess, again. As the PT progresses, we will decide when and to what extent I am able to return to active ministry. I am also looking forward to that! I am grateful, as always, for God’s providence, your prayers and expressions of support, and our amazing staff and volunteers. Thank you and I’ll keep you posted. God bless!

Peace, Fr. Jeff

Staff Spotlight

Tammy Kessler, Director of Adult Faith Formation and Initiation

What is something people do not know about you?

Two facts: I love school. I like getting to know classmates and professors and the challenge of learning new material. I like the process (I just really like a process of any sort) of outlining papers and continuously building on knowledge. And if I am being honest, I enjoy the satisfaction of earning good grades and diplomas. I am an introvert. While I can make presentations and be in groups, I crave days when I may not speak to anyone and can read, cook, clean, etc... in total silence. Those days don't happen very often, but I appreciate those times when they occur.

Favorite scripture or prayer and why?

Philippians 2:3-4 "Do nothing out of selfishness or out of vainglory; rather, humbly regard others as more important than yourselves, each looking out not for his own interests, but [also] everyone for those of others." I like this verse for two reasons. First, I am generally drawn to St. Paul and his writings because I can appreciate his conversion story (I came into the Church as an adult) and journey. Second, I believe this verse encapsulates how Catholics (and Christians) should live. Imagine the divides and hate that could be healed if we all lived with this verse at the forefront of our minds, which admittedly is difficult.

What do you love most about your ministry/serving at St. Patrick?

Watching my children learn to read allowed me to watch their imaginations, intellects, and worlds open. What a gift literacy is! Working in ministry is something I liken to this experience. In ministry, I am invited into the personal spaces of people's lives. This is a sacred invitation because these spaces are often messy and require trust, vulnerability, and emotion, which are uncomfortable places for many of us. Often, these spaces include conversations that are not easy or filled with cheer. Nor does it infer that parties always agree. I have realized, however, that if every exchange is done from a place of love, the outcome, even if unexpected, can lead to something positive. Every encounter I have is the chance to experience someone's life, mind, heart, etc... being impacted by Christ, similar to the gift of watching my children learn to read. I never want to squander either of these gifts.
