SRRC Support Team Positions: 

  • Campus Visits Coordinators - Campus Visits Coordinators serve as the main contact for Campus Visits Experience, which aims to provide students from underserved schools and/or with historically underrepresented & disadvantaged identities with an experience that exposes them to higher education. 
  • Student Administrative Assistants - Student Assistants support the logistics, data, and tracking of programs as well as overall operations support for the SRRC. 
  • Design & Marketing Team - The Graphic Designer & Marketing Coordinator are responsible for the creation and update of the SRRC’s publications and promotional materials. The coordinators serve as the main contact for all SRRC graphic and promotions design requests.  

Working for the SRRC is both amazing and empowering, allowing you to:

  • Give back to the underrepresented student community on the UC Davis campus and regionally.
  • Gain awareness of socio-political, cultural and social justice concerns affecting underrepresented communities.
  • Gain valuable leadership and organizational skills through the development of self-initiated projects, proposals, and budgets.
  • Coordinate programming that effectively recruits and/or retains underrepresented students.
  • Work individually with students to holistically address their needs.

My name is Taylor Harris, and I am the Pipeline Programs & Retention Coordinator in Graduate Studies. I am contacting you on behalf of UC LEADS, a program that prepares promising students for advanced education in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). We are hosting two informational sessions this quarter for undergraduate students interested in our program. The first session is virtual on January 17th, 2024, from 3 – 4pm and the second session is In-Person on February 6th, 2024, from 12pm – 1pm (Food will be provided). Students must meet at least sophomore standing (unit based) to be eligible for the program or must have at least 2 years left at UC Davis at the beginning of the appointment. Scholars accepted into the program are trained for graduate education (MS and PhD) and given the opportunity to perform paid summer research internships at UC Davis (1st summer) and other UC campuses (2ndsummer). The 2024 Undergraduate Public Health Scholars Application is Now Open!  

The goal of the Undergraduate Public Health Scholars program is to provide a mentored summer research experience in public health sciences, with an emphasis on systemic health inequities. Students will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in one of the many types of research activities conducted by faculty in the department, from epidemiology of health disparities to environmental health and health policy. Students will receive a stipend of $5000 for a 10-week program in research for the summer of 2024. Students are expected to work 40 hours per week, meet weekly with faculty mentors, attend a weekly scientific skills seminar conducted by Educational Enrichment & Outreach Programs (EEOP)/ Biology Undergraduate Scholars Program (BUSP), and present their research at the EEOP/BUSP Poster Session.

 

  • Eligibility: UC Davis undergraduates who have completed at least 3 years and have at least 1 more year prior to graduation. UPHS prioritizes students with a strong understanding and commitment to health equity, who are interested in pursuing careers in public health.  

 

Students from the following backgrounds are encouraged to apply:  

  • Identify as a historically excluded racial or ethnic minority (African American, American Indians/Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians/Pacific Islanders, Hispanic/Latinx) 
  • Have a disability 
  • Participate in the BUSP or BUSP-STARS 
  • Come from a disadvantaged background as defined by the NIH (See the EEOP eligibility page for specific details) 
  • Students do not have to be in the College of Biological Sciences. Students from ALL majors/disciplines (including non-STEM majors) are encouraged to apply.

 Description:
This course is designed for all students who think they may be interested in pursuing some form of postgraduate work (master, postbac, doctorate, etc) but are not sure how to do it or how to start. We will discuss all aspects of the process including: differences between the different types of postgraduate degrees, application requirements, personal statements, letters of recommendation, etc. The course will also include panels of graduate students at different departments of the university who will share their experiences and advise. Throughout the course, students will be encouraged to reach to faculty for letters of recommendation, develop a draft of their personal statement and an "application matrix plan". While open to anyone, this seminar will focus on the challenges and barriers faced by first generation and students of color when considering graduate school. This seminar will be specially useful for transfer students and junior students.

I learned more about ways to do your research on schools you're interested, different ways to pay for grad school such as financial aid, scholarships, TA positions, and much more. "The most enjoyable part of this seminar was the environment and conversation. It was a safe space and it felt nice to know that I wasn't alone and how others were also lost trying to find their way and it was nice to learn more about grad school with others experiences, stories, their knowledge, and overall the teachings of the professor it was all enjoyable. About the Men of Color Initiative: This initiative is open to anyone who is interested in acknowledging the challenges men of color face in higher education. We will discuss the importance of how to better support men of color here on campus, and how we can work as a community to make this happen. This group is specific to Black Indigenous People of Color and other marginalized groups who identify as male. We will have one meeting per month during the quarter to discuss the barriers men of color face as they learn how to navigate the education system.

Join us for the 2nd annual Women of Color Retreat (WOCR) taking place at Walker Creek Ranch on March 1st-3rd, 2024!

 

The Women of Color Retreat is hosted by the UC Davis Women's Resource & Research Center to foster opportunities for identity and skill development as well as community building for women and femme identified UC Davis students. This year, our theme for WOCR is Reimagining Healing, Reimagining Self: Unmasking What's Within!

The retreat will include identity based workshops, community care/healing spaces, and engaging activities. The retreat will be a unique opportunity for student-scholars to build community, explore identity, and share experiences/knowledge. We hope that you will join us!

Our Hopes for WOCR: Through the creation of an engaging retreat space, the WOCR, aspires to empower those with marginalized gender identities, with a specific focus on those who hold women identities, to connect and be in community with one another while being compassionately challenged to explore identity at the intersections of race and gender, feelings associated with that exploration, and become more vulnerable with others. The WOCR is an opportunity for women of color to explore the beautiful complexities and the brilliant joy of being exactly who we are. 

Retreat Details:

Busses will depart UC Davis at 9am on Friday March 1st

We will return to UC Davis at 6pm on Sunday March 3rd

Lodging and meals will be provided (Continental breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner on the 1st; Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner on the 2nd; Breakfast and Lunch on the 3rd)

Our scholar, Joshua Melendez, Mental Health Community Advocate with the AB540 and Undocumented Student Center along with our colega, Gabi Gonzalez, from SHCS, poured a lot of love and energy into organizing this year's event lineup for Together We Rise (TWR)! A biweekly, affirming space for undocumented and mixed-status folx to relax, build community, and share their experiences navigating life as human beings and scholars who happen to be undocumented at UCD. If you are willing and able, please share this resource with students in your classes and spheres!

The UC Davis Underground Scholars Program aims to create a pathway for incarcerated, formerly incarcerated and system impacted individuals into higher education. We are an academic support program housed within the Office of Educational Opportunity and Enrichment Services (OEOES) at UC Davis. Our goal is to build a prison-to-school pipeline through recruitment, retention, advocacy, wellness, and career services.

It’s that time again for our annual MESA Preliminary Day! The MESA team is in full preparation mode for MESA Day, and we need volunteers and judges! MESA Day is where our middle school and high school students will compete locally by showcasing their engineering, coding, and creativity skills through various competitions (Math Escape, Coding Solutions, Moon Base, Cargo Glider, MESA Machine, NEDC, Think Tank, and Crime Scene Science). We would love to have you help us out by either serving as a guest judge for a competition or volunteer (helping with logistics/registration/lunch distribution/clean up on MESA Day! We will provide separate training for volunteers and guest judges in the month of February. 

 

Perks: You are helping to ensure middle school and high school students can compete in their STEM competitions by helping us with logistics or judging a competition. Please note: our students have been working extremely hard on their projects and a good portion of them started in SEPT/OCT 2022. We will also provide a free t-shirt, snacks/lunch, and a gift (a token of our appreciation). 

 

 

Deadline to Register: February 7, 2023

 

For Think Tank & NEDC, Students submit their electronically submit their video/poster/prototype on February 23rd and you will have a week to judge their submission. NEDC: part I- poster/prototype (virtually) and part II- technical interview (in-person). 

 

In-Person MESA Day: March 2, 2023

In-Person MESA Day Competitions: Moon Base, Cargo Glider, MESA Machine, Crime Scene, NEDC (Technical Interviews ONLY), and Think Tank (Interviews ONLY).

My name is Ashley Samson. I am the Scholarships and Operations Coordinator within the Global Learning Hub. I wanted to reach out to see if you are willing to share the attached flyer with your students outlining a research grant opportunity. 


The Global Aggies Award for LGBTQIA+ Rights encourages and supports UC Davis students global learning and engagement regarding the issues that LGBTQIA+ communities and individuals face around the world. Students may submit project proposals individually or as a team of collaborators.


The application closes on February 21, 2024 at 11:59 pm PST. 


The grant supports student involvement in research or creative work, internships/externships, or other projects that advance the rights and/or wellbeing of LGBTQIA+ people globally. This may include:

  • Student-driven research or creative activity with a global dimension that aims to support or explore LGBTQIA+ wellbeing and/or rights.
  • Collaboration with faculty on relevant research or creative activity.
  • Engagement in projects or internships with organizations that support LGBTQIA+ wellbeing and/or rights—these may impact a defined community or create resources supporting LGBTQIA+ people locally, in the United States, in other countries, or transnationally.
  • Student-developed independent projects focused on topics relevant to this award to be implemented while studying abroad.

Eligibility

  • Open to continuing UC Davis undergraduate, graduate, and professional students.
  • Open to all majors and fields of study.

Project Examples


  • Collaborate with faculty on a literature review to support research investigating the experiences of transgender and gender nonconforming people in Sacramento area diasporic communities who have sought gender-affirming care.
  • Attend an international cultural gathering organized by LGBTQIA+ artists and musicians with the plan to share that experience through a video.
  • Join a team to help create gender-affirming, racially and sexually inclusive resources on LGBTQIA+ Asian and Pacific Islander (API) health in multiple languages.
  • Inform and participate in global LGBTQIA+ youth policy advocacy at the United Nations.


Award Amount - Up to $2,500

  • Gilman funds federal Pell grant recipients with up to $5,000 for credit bearing study and internship abroad programs in countries with a travel warning of 1 or 2 throughout the world. Study Abroad has many programs that fit the Gilman criteria.
  • The next application period is scheduled to run from late January through Thursday, March 7th and will apply to any study abroad program with a start date between May 1, 2024 and April 30, 2025 (summer 2024, fall 2024, winter/spring 2024, the entire 2024-25 academic year). 
  • UC Davis has had 471 Gilman Scholars – including 180 Chicanx/Latinx Gilman Scholars – since 2015 and we have regularly been recognized as a Gilman Top Producer. While we are pleased with this success, we believe there is potential for further growth.
