November 3, 2023
Dear PRE Families,
The outpouring of love and support for our family impacted by the fire this week was more than we could have imagined. Thank you. You showed up for them with clothing, toys, diapers, gift cards, and offers of items that they will need in the future. They have the clothing they need for now, and as needs arise, we will ask on their behalf.
Speaking of giving, we will have a Bucks for Birds Day on Thursday, November 9, 2023. Bucks for Birds allows students to pay a dollar to wear a hat to school. All proceeds will go to the Food Bank to help purchase Thanksgiving meals for families in need.
In December, we will Deck our Halls with canned goods for the food bank.
Our school staff looks forward to seeing you for Parent-Teacehr Conferences on Monday the 6th and Wednesday the 8th.
On Wednesday, November 15, the Johnstown Qdoba will have a giveback night benefiting the PRE PTO from 4-8 p.m. Let their staff do the cooking, mention the Pioneer Ridge PTO and 25% of the proceeds will come back to our PTO.
Our nutrition department will serve their Thanksgiving meal at RE-5J schools on November 16, 2023. The meal will include turkey and gravy, mashed potatoes, a dinner roll, mixed hot veggies, a full salad bar with cranberry sauce, and a cookie.
Pick up of items from the Big Kahuna fundraiser will be on Thursday, November 16, from 2:00-6:00 p.m. in the Pioneer Ridge gym.
Please join us in celebrating the Students of the Month for October. Congratulations to these SUPER Students!
Our students have the opportunity to participate in Safe Touch presentations next week, beginning on Monday, November 6. There is more information below. If you would like to opt your child out of the presentation, please let your child’s teacher know.
There are a few scholarly things students should do at home. Students should read every day and if needed, work on any unfinished work or class or family projects. Students may need additional practice in a particular skill, too.
Students are not penalized for incomplete homework.
Teachers this year are not assigning homework in the traditional way. Research shows that assigning work to be done only at home does not benefit students, especially at the elementary level. Students need the time after school for their brains to absorb what was learned during the day, time to move their bodies, and time to be with their families. Some teachers have assigned optional homework for those who enjoy doing that together at home.
Other scholarly activities to do at home include:
- Reading before bed (even stay up an extra 10 minutes if your student is reading)
- Reading aloud to an adult while the adult is making a meal, to a sibling, to a pet or stuffed animal
- Keeping a journal
- Keeping a gratitude journal (write down three things you were grateful for today)
- Writing letters or sight words on the bathroom mirror for the student to practice
- While driving, an adult can ask the student math facts, say nursery rhymes, and spell words aloud
Have a wonderful weekend,

Queridas familias PRE,
--
