We would like your help to continue to understand each person's experience with our school community. WSPTA Legislative Assembly Mini-Recap

Each year, Washington State PTA hosts Legislative Assembly - an event for advocates from across the state to participate in a true grassroots advocacy program. Delegates have the opportunity to take classes to improve their skills and to participate in debating and voting on legislative priorities for PTA. This year's Legislative Assembly took place October 15-16. Norman Rockwell Elementary was represented by delegate Nicole Dahl, co-VP Advocacy. Based on delegates' votes, these five top-ranked issues will serve as WSPTA's legislative platform for the next two years:

  1. Addressing the Student Mental Health Crisis
  2. Addressing Critical Gaps in Education Funding
  3. Preventing and Reducing Gun Violence and Suicide
  4. Addressing Funding, Inclusion and Supports in Special Education
  5. Building and Maintaining Safer School Facilities

Read about these legislative issues in the Voters' Guide (PDF). Stay tuned for a full recap of the 2022 Legislative Assembly. For further information please contact Nicole Dahl.

Kick off National Arts and Humanities month with the Reflections Art Contest!

October is National Arts and Humanities month, and what better way to celebrate it than participating in an event that highlights the artistic expression of our children.

Each year's National Reflections art competition has a theme and this year's is "Show Your Voice!". Entries are taken in 6 different categories: visual arts, literature, music composition, dance choreography, photography and film production. Don't miss out on this opportunity to share and showcase your work.

Entries are due by the end of the day on Tuesday, October 25th. Winners will advance to the District level with a chance to have their artwork displayed in Washington DC!

The Reflections Program is a National PTA and Washington State PTA cultural arts competition which was started in 1969 and is the largest arts in education program of its kind in the Unites States. The purpose of the program is to provide an opportunity for students to use their creative talents by expressing themselves through their own original works, created around a specific theme.
