We believe it is best to continue our current guidelines as updated below.

CSFA’s COVID-19 policy is as follows:

  •  If you test positive for Covid or are living with or are in close contact with someone who has tested positive for Covid, please do not attend services or synagogue activities for a period that includes at least one Shabbat.  Please stay home the required Shabbat and be tested with negative results before you return to the synagogue.

  • All CSFA members, visitors, and program attendees are required to be fully vaccinated, including with boosters if eligible.

  •  Masks are required for all indoor services and programming.

We recognize that many of us are feeling enormous fatigue around masking, while for others continued masking creates a stronger feeling of safety. We feel compelled to protect one another by maintaining our policy in this way, as we begin to navigate this next wave of COVID-19.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

EREV ROSH HASHANAH

BEFORE ROSH HASHANAH

Preparing a Flame for Yom Tov

On Yom Tov, kindling a new fire is not permitted; however, the use of an existing fire for cooking or other purposes is permitted.

To light candles for Day 2 of Rosh Hashanah (Monday night), ensure that you have a fire burning before candle-lighting time for Day 1 (Sunday evening) that will continue to burn until after dark on Monday.  For example:

  • A burning candle that lasts for more than 25 hours
  • A pilot light on a gas range (not a gas range with an electronic starter)

Dawn to Dusk

Fast of Gedaliah

The Fast of Gedalia (צוֹם גְּדַלְיָה ), is a minor fast day to lament the assassination of Gedaliah, the righteous governor of what was the Kingdom of Judah. His death ended Jewish autonomy following the destruction of the First Temple and the fall of King Zedekiah.
