This application is to fill one vacant COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION seat for a term ending June 30, 2023. To be eligible an individual must be 18 years of age or older and participate in a community organization with a facility address within the boundaries of the NWSPNC. Examples of a community organization include religious institutions, non-profit organizations, neighborhood associations, faith-based groups, senior groups, youth groups, arts associations, service organizations, cultural groups, or environmental groups. 2022 Speed Hump Program
Starting October 6 at 9:00AM you and your neighbors can apply to have speed humps installed on your block! Register your block for speed humps starting October 6 at 9AM.
Get Ready to Vote LA County
November 8th is Election Day. Here are some things you need to know in order to vote:
First, make sure you are registered to vote. You can click here to register online. If you moved recently, you should check your registration status to make sure the Registrar-Recorder has your current address on file. 
September 28th: Sample Ballots mailed out.
October 6th - 10th: Vote-by-Mail ballots mailed out. In LA County, every voter will automatically be sent a mail-in ballot, but you can opt to vote in-person instead or use a ballot drop box. 
  • October 29th: First set of Vote Centers open their doors. You can vote in-person at any Vote Center that is convenient to you. 
  • November 5th: All Vote Centers open.
  • November 8th: Election Day! Vote Centers and drop boxes close at 8pm. 
The locations of Vote Centers and Ballot Drop Boxes are expected to be released in the coming week or two. 
2022 Homeless Count Updates
On September 8th, the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) released the results of the 2022 Homeless Count, which suggest that homelessness may be rising more slowly than in previous years. The results of the point-in-time count, conducted over three nights in February, estimated that 69,144 people were experiencing homelessness in LA County at that time, a 4.1% rise from 2020, and 41,980 people were experiencing homelessness in the City of LA, up 1.7% from 2020. (A count was not conducted in 2021 due to the COVID pandemic.) 
 
Service Planning Area 8, or SPA 8, serves the communities of Athens, Avalon, Carson, Catalina Island, El Segundo, Gardena, Harbor City, Hawthorne, Inglewood, Lawndale, Lennox, Long Beach*, Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach, Palos Verdes Estates, Rancho Dominguez, Rancho Palos Verdes, Redondo Beach, Rolling Hills, Rolling Hills Estates, San Pedro, Torrance, and Wilmington.

Angels Gate Cultural Center (AGCC), in conjunction with the Artist At Work (AAW) program, presents Intertidal Encounters, a panel discussion series led by Taylor Griffith, AAW Artist Fellow. This public program series brings together artists and scientists whose work focuses on the ocean, with an emphasis on southern California coastline.

Intertidal Encounters: Reefs on September 28th will explore the importance of biodiverse reefs and coastal ecosystems. Artist Courtney Mattison and scientist/co-founder of Blue Latitudes, Amber Sparks, will be in discussion with AAW artist fellow Taylor Griffith.

Angels Gate Cultural Center and the Marine Mammal Care Center are collaborating on monthly Marine Science & Art Workshops! Free for all, kids and adults. Supplies will be provided. All ages welcome! 
Join the Marine Mammal Education Team and Angels Gate Artist Beth Elliott for an afternoon of learning and artmaking in person. The afternoon will begin with an overview of the Marine Mammal Care Center and the patients they treat, followed by a cyanotype workshop led by Angels Gate Studio Artist, Beth Elliott. Supplies will be provided.
The event will begin promptly at 1pm. Please be sure to be at the Marine Mammal Care Center by that time.


ArtLab takes place in-person at the Marine Mammal Care Center. COVID-19 safety protocols (mask wearing & contact tracing) will be enforced on-site. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

FREE CONCERT AT THE WARNER GRAND THEATRE OCTOBER 6
AltaSea’s Third Annual Blue Hour
Blue Hour 3: The Warehouse will feature world-renowned artists David LaChapelle and Taiji Terasaki in collaboration with Parley for the Oceans, along with local artists as they blend art with ocean conservation in a visual journey at AltaSea’s expansive waterfront campus.

AltaSea at the Port of Los Angeles is proud to announce its third annual Blue Hour, an event that connects science, culture, and community by combining art and technology to tell the story of the emerging blue economy. Blue Hour 3: The Warehouse will be a multi-part visual experience, with various art installations created by established and emerging local artists along with an award ceremony. Headlining the fundraiser will be famed oceanographer and explorer Sylvia Earle, who has logged over 7,000 hours underwater, as she accepts the Explorer Award. The event will take place at AltaSea’s campus at the Port of Los Angeles on October 8, with doors opening at 5 PM and the awards ceremony starting at 7 PM. Tickets to the event are on sale now. Scary Stories is Back!
The 20th annual SCARY STORIES is back with two unique programs; one live on October 29 and the other online for the month of October. Spellbinding storytelling with fabulous sound effects suitable for the young, old, living and...shhhhhh!
 
Online, October 1st through November 6th, folks will gather around the virtual fire at home for unique free SCARY STORIES. Visit Melanie Jones Storyteller website, starting October 1st to discover what eery stories she has in store for you. Donations are encouraged!
 
Saturday, October 29th at 6:30pm, a live performance will take place in the amphitheater around a bonfire. It is recommended to bring your own chairs with distanced seating and masks required. There are a limited number of folding chairs on site available for free. Picnics are welcome and warm attire is suggested. Tickets are $5 for general admission, cash only and children 6 and under are free!

As the lead agency in developing a seamless roll out of 988, Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (LACDMH) has been preparing for this launch for more than a year to ensure operational logistics and response teams are in place to enable Los Angeles County community members to call 988 and receive immediate help during a mental health crisis.
