Message from the Board

Dear Ben Franklin Academy Community,

On behalf of the BFA Board of Directors, welcome to the beginning of the 2022-23 school year!

I am privileged to serve alongside the other six members of the BFA Board. Together we are committed to the mission and vision of BFA and are passionate about pursuing excellence at our school. This June, we convened for our annual Board Retreat to reflect upon the past year and develop the strategic direction for the 2022-23 school year. We look forward to continued success with the help of our leadership, teachers and parent community.

Principal Simpson has demonstrated tremendous leadership during the past five years, and we are thankful she will continue to serve as the school principal this year.

A few of the Board priorities this year include:

  • Maintaining Ben Franklin Academy’s strong academic curriculum in all areas of STEAM education.
  • Supporting teachers with Professional Development opportunities to become experts and leaders in their field of work.
  • Promoting consistent and open communication between the Board, administrators, teachers, and parent community.
  • Increasing volunteerism among the BFA community. We need your help! Please take advantage of the many volunteer opportunities available as they greatly contribute to the success of our school.

Importantly, we are beginning the year with a vacancy on the Board. At-Large Board Member, Jason Page, has resigned. If you, or someone you know, would like to be considered as a candidate for this position, we would love to hear from you. The term will be one year (the remainder left on Jason’s occupied seat). Haley Maglieri will be sending out additional details and information on the process for this appointment tomorrow.

Thank you for choosing BFA as your students’ STEAM School of Choice. We wish you all the best this school year!

Thank you,

Matt Keillor

President, BFA Board of Directors

The mission of BFA is to develop young adults with character like America’s founding Renaissance man, Benjamin Franklin: well-read, scientifically curious, and civically engaged.

This is supported by BFA’s vision that our students will excel academically through a challenging, sequenced curriculum that emphasizes math, science, the arts, and literacy. We will be a data-driven institution, focusing on individual students. Our students, teachers, parents, staff, and leaders will be held accountable for the success of our school. Finally, we recognize that an education is incomplete without fostering social emotional development, character, sports, and nature.
