READINGS FOR THE SIXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
PRACTICE OF CHARITY
In Jesus' day people with certain skin conditions had to live apart from the community, which only added to their suffering. Imagine being someone in such circumstances.
- How do you take care of your basic needs? Do you form relationships with others who have similar ailments? How do healthy people treat you?
- Who in your community might feel outcast or lonely because of a physical disability or a mental illness? Do such people make you feel uncomfortable? Ask Christ to cleanse you of whatever keeps you from treating others with dignity and love.
- After Jesus heals him, the leper doesn't return to his former life. Have you changed because of the good things God has done for you, or have you returned to your usual way of living? As Lent approaches, consider what you can do to live more fully "for the glory of God" (1 Corinthians 10:31).
We are doing our best to continue to provide a safe space to worship for everyone. Click here to see current COVID safety measures.
Live Stream Mass on the weekend is currently during the Saturday 5:00pm Vigil Mass. Beginning in Lent we will switch to live streaming the Sunday 9:00am Mass.

THE NEWLYWED GAME
This Saturday, February 10 after the 5:00pm Mass
| |
To celebrate “World Marriage Day,” the Cana Commission would like to host happy hour with appetizers and “The Newlywed Game!” Couples of all ages and stages are invited. Your grooviest 70’s outfit encouraged! Free childcare provided! $20 per couple at the door, and there will be some fun prizes!
The Cana Commission honored couples married 50+ years last year on World Marriage Day. We are blessed with so many couples living out this Sacrament in our parish. This year we want to honor and acknowledge couples who have been married 15 years or less, because it gives us hope! Many young couples are choosing not to make a lifelong commitment in faith to each other. So, ALL COUPLES living out this commitment of hope, faith, and trust in God and in each other, please join us!
Every couple will play the game from their seats and join in on the fun. Couples married 15 years or less will place their names in a basket if they want a chance to be one of the four couples to play in front of the audience for our GRAND PRIZE, which is a $200 gift card for an overnight stay at the Hyatt and a $200 gift card to Daniel’s Broiler, both conveniently located in Bellevue Place. By the way, Daniel’s has a great happy hour in the main lounge with live piano entertainment, and an awesome coconut fudge sundae!

OPEN YOUR HEART
To Infants and Children in Need
|
This coming weekend, our parish will participate in the statewide PREPARES Open Your Heart Appeal.
The PREPARES (Pregnancy & Parenting Support) ministry is a nurturing, parish-based response to low-income mothers and fathers who, regardless of religious belief, have chosen life: the promise of support and care from pregnancy to their child's fifth birthday. Your gift, no matter the amount, will have a real impact in fulfilling the promise to families in need to provide life-affirming, life-changing support.
The program was initiated in 2014 by the bishops of Washington state to offer parishes the opportunity to live out Catholic teachings about the value of all human life and the preferential option for the poor. Since then, statewide, the program has been adopted by 188 parishes, and in 2023 trained 742 Volunteers and Companions to serve 14,120 families, offering one-on-one companionship, children's essentials and social and educational events for young parents. To learn more, volunteer, or donate, visit www.preparesforlife.org.

WHAT IS YOUR PLAN FOR YOUR LENTEN JOURNEY THIS YEAR? |
Ash Wednesday is on February 14 — so take your honey out for a lovely dinner the weekend before or to the Newlywed Game in the Social Hall, then spend Valentine’s Day planning your journey towards Easter. Do you need some thoughts?
- Add one or more Mass to your week.
- Come to Stations of the Cross/Soup Night every Friday during Lent.
- Spend some quiet time with Christ in the Adoration Chapel.
- Join a Bible study, or use a reflection guide with your family or friends. The Archdiocese of Seattle created a five-week small group reflection guide, Encounter, which includes Scripture readings, prayer, and reflection. The Parish office has copies to share or you can print one from here.
- Check out a new form of Catholic Media—watch The Chosen, read a spiritual book (we have a number of good choices in the Narthex or ask the staff for suggestions), check out Sacred Heart Radio (they will be at SJV the first weekend of Lent), check out a podcast—Bishop Robert Barron and Fr. Mike Schmitz have good ones. The Archdiocese website has lots of suggestions with links here.
- Spend time serving others—the food banks need volunteers as does the St. Vincent de Paul store in Kenmore, look to using your passion or your expertise to service seniors at the Bothell Senior Center. Even a one-time volunteering can help. If you are looking to volunteer as a family or with your kids: SJV will have the Spring Grounds Clean Up on March 23, come make the grounds shine for Easter! Or, join us to make lunches for the homeless on the first Thursday of every month.

Because of your generous support of the Annual Catholic Appeal, we received a rebate that is being used to send some of the youth in leadership from our parish to the Religious Education Congress in Anaheim, California next week. We are also providing scholarships to active parish youth to go to CYO summer camp. Thank you to all who have paid AND continue to pay their Annual Catholic Appeal pledge!
What’s that? Catholics who exchanged vows in the presence of a minister from another religious tradition or had a civil official without a “dispensation from canonical form” are eligible to receive the Sacrament of Marriage through a Convalidation Ceremony. Every couple’s situation is unique, so schedule an appointment with Father to find out what steps you need to begin this process. Some people are in need of an annulment in order to have their marriage convalidated. We are blessed to have our Parish Advocate, Roberta Hatfield, to help people through this process. Convalidations can be celebrated very simple and do not need to be a lavish or an expensive event. It can be as big, or as intimate a celebration as you wish. Simply the couple, witnesses, and the priest or deacon. We are here to help you on your journey. If this is something you have been thinking about and as a couple, and would like to receive the benefits of embracing the Vocation of the Sacrament of Marriage, please call or come by the parish office and let us help you get started. Contact Laura Stanger with questions.
We are repurposing our upstairs restrooms so that they will be Non-Gender oriented. People have been asking for this and there are several good reasons to doing so. Not only does this make the use of the upstairs restrooms more efficient, it will also allow males to use the baby changing table upstairs. The downstairs restrooms will remain gender specific.
RARE DISEASE AWARENESS GATHERING

Highlights:
- Rare Diseases are more common than cancer and AIDS combined.
- 1 in 8 Americans will have a rare disease at some point in their lives.
- There are over 10,000 rare diseases.
- Over 240 new rare diseases are identified each year.
Be Inspired, Support, Connect, and Discover how you can support others and explore the resources available in our community. Let's come together, learn, and uplift one another. All Are Welcome! We look forward to seeing you there!

PRAYING THE MASS
Offertory
| |
After we have listened to God's word, we come to the altar. As the servers prepare the altar, let us prepare our hearts. As the bread and wine are brought forward, let us offer something more: our lives, our very selves.
Think about all that has happened since the last time you were at Mass. What things are you thankful for? Bring them to the altar. What are your disappointments and failures? Bring them to the altar. Who are the people in your life who need to be lifted up in prayer? Bring them to the altar. What doubts or sadness or concern for the future do you bring with you today? Bring them to the altar, offer them to God.
As the bread and wine are lifted up to be transformed into the body and blood of Christ, let us ask God to transform all that we have offered-and God will give our offering back to us, changed into something new and wonderful, just as the bread and wine are transformed into something wonderful-the body and blood of Christ.
"Lord, here is my life. I place it on the altar today. Use it as you will."
