2019 Real Estate Basketball Alumni & Friends Event
The 2019 UConn Real Estate Center Alumni & Friends Basketball Event will be held on Sunday,  February 24. The Real Estate Center will host a pre-game lunch and reception at noon at the Hilton Hartford Hotel, 315 Trumbull Street, Hartford. 
 
Following the reception, the UConn Men will play the University of Cincinnati Bearcats at 2:00 pm at the XL  Center.

2018 Cornell International Real Estate Case Competition

Cornell International Real Estate Case Competition

On Tuesday, November 13, 2018, The UConn student team presented in the 10th Annual Cornell International Real Estate Case Competition. The UConn team consisted of 6 senior members Jake Brassard, Theo Felopolus, Stephanie Maule, Caci RhudaJeremy Rocha, and  Elyse Williams along with 2 alternates, senior  Gaby Dabek, and junior  Ben Goldstein.  The team advanced to the final round and placed fifth overall among the top 6 Schools including,  Georgetown University, Indiana University, Villanova University, University of Michigan and University of Pennsylvania .   A total of 27 teams participated in the 6 day competition.   

The case was based on a 10-story office building investment on the West Side of Manhattan. The team's objective was to analyze, underwrite, and present their investment recommendation to their pension fund client. It was a grueling six day process that provided an exciting hands-on learning experience for everyone involved. At the end of the competition Silverstein Properties CEO Marty Burger presented the investment that his firm made in the property, on which the case was based.

Situs RERC and CORENET
Real Estate Society Presentations
On Tuesday November 27, 2018 Andrew Sabatini, Managing Director, Morgan Westpfahl, Director and Jennifer Layton, VP Valuations and IF, from Situs RERC were on campus to meet with real estate students. They presented at the Real Estate Society meeting about their operations, internship opportunities, and full-time employment. It gave our  students a great understanding of what a valuation company does, how they service their clients needs, and the many things student can learn working in such a grroup. 



On Tuesday October 23, 2018 Mark Nisbett, Scott Tibbo, and Leonardo Pupim visited with the Real Estate Society, representing the Connecticut Westchester Chapter of CoreNet Global. They presented to students on the importance of networking, and opportunities that CoreNet provides to meet influential real estate professionals.

Fan Pier Trip and the Cornerstone Class
This semester Dave Reilly again taught a class for the Real Estate Center at UConn, we want to thank him for his generosity and contribution. The Cornerstone Class features professionals with expertise in all property types, as well as an in class case study that strives to give students a look into real estate investing. Other Professional class visitors included: Marty Kane, Mike Gately, Jim Lagasse, Patrick Nista, Bill Towill, Christine Hovey, Mark Higgins, Dave Romano and Bruce Simon.
 
The class also featured a trip to Boston's Seaport District to view the Fan Pier development and meet with the Fallon Company. This trip reviews the Fan Pier investment, its history, and the details of the investment. The students had the opportunity to see and learn about the investment process to date, from ground up involving  original land acquisition through the sale and management of existing assets. 




Real Estate Society Officers Fall 2018

We just wanted to take this opportunity to thank our Real Estate Society officers, Caci, Theo, Stephanie, and Ben, for their hard work and dedication this semester. Ben will be traveling abroad to Italy next semester,  we wish him all the best. Kyle Ramsey will be stepping in as the new treasurer for spring 2019.
Autonomous Vehicles - People, Policy & Law
on April 1, 2019, the School of Engineering, Geography and Law will come together in conjunction with the Real Estate Center to host a symposium on Autonomous Vehicles - People, Policy & Law. Putting Humans in the AV Driver's Seat.  

The program will be held on April 1, 2019 at the Rome Ballroom, University of Connecticut in Storrs.   8:00 AM - 4:00 PM.  Registration and program details to follow.    

2019 Student Placement
The Center for Real Estate and Urban Economic Studies has many students who have received full-time or internship placement for 2019, and are still in the process of placing others. Real estate students have or are in the process of completing what many consider to be one of the best academic real estate programs in the country. 

To date 2019 Student full-time and internship placement real estate firms include the following: Barings, CBRE - Hartford, Fitch Ratings Agency, Newmark Knight Frank, JP Morgan Chase, Wells Fargo, Starwood Properties and UBS Realty.

The Center offers a Resume Book accessible online. You are welcome to register your company's profile on the system. Upon completion, you will receive an email confirming your registration. Spring 2019 Calendar 
Fall 2018 - Spring 2019 Real Estate Society Events -  The Real Estate Society meeting are every Tuesday, Busn room 214.  The Society will hold several social/networking events throughout the semester. Students should watch for emails from the Real Estate Society for details on these events. In-classroom professional speaker events are currently being scheduled.
