Hello Michael,

Here is what's happening

at Market Wines this week!

Facebook  Twitter

It’s our first real snowfall of the year, how should we celebrate, I know a great bottle of wine. We have plenty of wines that will help you make it through the cold and snow. On the snow note, we are always open unless Hamilton County declares a Level 3 Snow Emergency.

Great wine tasting with a little twist this weekend.  We are featuring two great California winemakers on the tasting. Three of the wines will be from Poppy Wines out of Monterey, there will be a Chardonnay, a Pinot Noir and a Cabernet Sauvignon. The third red comes from McNab Ridge out of Mendocino.

Exciting News: We are pleased to announce the return of Wine School. The first wine school of the year will be February 22nd from 6:30 until 8:30 and will feature the Southern France(this is a change from last week). The cost is $40 and space is limited so call or stop by to make your reservation.

We are in the planning stage for our 16th Anniversary Party. The date is March 23rd and more details will follow.

A little bit of housekeeping news. We are going to finish the floor in the beer area this year, so we will be closed a couple days for remodeling. We will close at 3:00 on February 25th and be closed on Tuesday February 27th. If all goes well, we plan on opening back up on Wednesday February 28th

Poppy Chardonnay, California $14.99

Poppy, located in Monterey Wine Country, was founded by the Silva Family, who in 2003 endeavored to channel their passions into a carefully crafted wine with a focus on Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Sauvignon.  Poppy wines are produced from vineyards located in the Santa Lucia Highlands, Arroyo Seco, Monterey and Paso Robles Appellations nestled along California’s Central Coast. Their careful selection of vineyards ensures that you experience the best of California in every glass. Their five vineyards are located in the Santa Lucia Highlands and Arroyo Seco appellations within the world-class Monterey Wine Country. Poppy Chardonnay is from the Santa Lucia Highlands Vineyard. Grapes for this Chardonnay were harvested off our Hillside Vineyard in the Santa Lucia Highlands appellation, which is located on the Central Coast of California. The pronounced slope of the vineyard with well-drained soils and eastern exposure allows us to select blocks for varying levels of maturity over multiple dates. Check out their website.

Poppy Pinot Noir, California $17.99

Poppy Pinot Noir is from the Arroyo Seco Vineyard in Monterey. The Arroyo Seco appellation, which means “dry riverbed,” begins in a steep, narrow gorge at the foot of the Santa Lucia Mountain range in Monterey County. Moving east, the topography widens and eventually opens up to the warm, fertile soil of the Salinas Valley. Deep in the canyon, vineyards are shielded from characteristic afternoon winds and thus experience warmer temperatures. As the canyon opens to the valley floor, the afternoon Pacific Ocean breeze cools the grapes, tempering their growth and intensifying the fruit flavors.

Fred’s Red, California $14.99

As one of the pioneers of California’s Wine Industry, the Parducci family has been devoted to handcrafting premium Mendocino County wines for over 70 years. Mendocino County’s first vineyards were planted during the American Civil War by immigrants seeking to carve out new lives in this fertile land of northern California. McNab Valley is named after the Scottish immigrant and American soldier Alexander McNab who raised sheep on a 10,000-acre land grant in 1866. To manage his flocks, in 1885 he imported two male “fox collies” from an original neighbor and bred a distinctive dog variety that, not surprisingly, became known as McNab; his son John imported others from the same area in the early 1900s. One legend is Alexander crossed the original males with Spanish females imported by the Basque sheep herders to obtain a shorter haired dog more resistant to California heat. He became well known locally for the skill of his herding dogs, Peter and Fred, who would become patriarchs of the McNab dog breed, still a beloved working breed in the Pacific Northwest and Mendocino County in particular. Fred’s Red wine produced under the Fun Bunch is named in honor of one of these great dogs, Fred, and features a McNab on the label. A ball fetching, car chasing, doggone good red wine. Check out their website.

Poppy Cabernet Sauvignon, California $14.99

Poppy Cabernet Sauvignon is from the Paso Robles Vineyard. With a greater day-to-night temperature swing than any other appellation in California, distinct microclimates, diverse soils, and long growing season, Paso Robles is a unique wine region with optimal growing conditions for producing premium and ultra-premium wines, with a focus on Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, and Syrah.

Have you always wanted to look like Michael, now is your chance. We are taking pre-orders for fleece pullovers like all your favorite Market Wine employees have been wearing. The cost will be $40 and we will take your size preference at the time of pre-order. We will be taking orders through February 14th(it would make a great Valentine’s Day present). Payment is required at time of order.

It's that time of year. We took the opportunity on a snow day to go through the shop and come up with our close out rack. Stop by and check out all the good deals.
