Artistic Talk - Gregg Deal

On behalf of Department of Art and Creative Media in Partnership with the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Funded by Hispanic Serving Initiatives.

Gregg Deal (Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe) will speak about his artistic journey as a Native contemporary artist. His work challenges and critiques the ways in which the representation of Indigenous people in American society have been confined, controlled, and stereotyped. Through his work he creates unapologetic commentary on stereotypes, politics, history, and culture, exploring these conversations through sculpture, painting, installation, performance, murals, and more. His art is purposefully disruptive, seeking to shake ideas while also being a vessel for therapeutic self-healing and self-expression.

Gregg Deal has exhibited nationally and internationally, notably in the Denver Art Museum, and Smithsonian Institution. He has lectured extensively at museums and universities across the country. His appearances include televised specials on PBS’s The Art District, The Daily Show, and Totally Biased with Kamau Bell.

Cybersecurity

On behalf of Information Security Department

In the dynamic realm of social media, where sharing snippets of our lives has become a norm, it's crucial to recognize the potential of the cybersecurity pitfalls. The open sharing of personal information available on social media has made them a prime target for threat actors seeking to exploit vulnerabilities and provide a precursor that allows them to harvest information, potentially leading to a larger attack. Here are some tips on how to protect yourself and those you are connected to:

Limit Personal Information! - Be mindful of the details you share. Disclosing sensitive information, such as your home address (city you live in), phone number, date of birth, school you attended, or financial data, can inadvertently provide threat actors with ammunition for identity theft.

Tighten your Privacy settings! - Default privacy settings may expose your posts to a broader audience. Limit the visibility to only those you trust. Relaxed security settings allow bad actors to easily access information on your page without adding you, providing free access to revealing information.

Disable Location services! - Tagging your location in posts may compromise your physical security. Disable location services for social media apps, particularly when posting from home or while on vacation. This lets bad actors know your home/office may be vacant. Sharing your location provides threat actors with a real time location of you.

Vigilance against Phishing! - Social media is a breeding ground for cybercriminals who seek to trick users into revealing sensitive information. Exercise skepticism with unsolicited messages or friend requests, avoid clicking suspicious links and ensure you verify the identity of unknown contacts. It is very common to create a profile which mimics that of someone you may know and trust. Exercise skepticism when communicating with information you may find revealing, especially when shared across social media sites.

Stay vigilant, stay safe, stay aware!

Recognizing Physical Accessibility in February!

On behalf of Disability Resources

Colorado State University Pueblo strives to create an environment that is welcoming to people of all abilities. We seek to dismantle barriers to equal opportunity, and embrace the diversity within disability as well as the variety of intersections with other social identities.

Each month, CSUP Disability Resources brings recognition to particular areas of accessibility, and provides resources to encourage equal access within our community. For February, we spotlight physical accessibility, and provide resources for making spaces accessible. We also share resources on accessibility within the Pueblo, Colorado Springs, and Denver metro communities.

Commencement is an important milestone in our CSU Pueblo students' academic and life journeys. To celebrate this important step, faculty and staff play an important role in the setup, facilitation, and clean up of the commencement ceremony.

The Staff Availability and the Faculty Participation forms are located on the Staff & Faculty Commencement page.

Full-time staff are expected to complete the availability form by March 1. Assignments will be communicated by end of March. Faculty are asked to indicate if they will walk in the ceremony.

Participate in a Discussion Forum on Free Speech and Democracy

On behalf of Political Science

Free speech is a Constitutional protected and culturally cherished value in the United States. But there have been recent efforts on both the political left and right to shun, censor, or prohibit disagreeable ideas and viewpoints. Amidst all the discussion of cancel culture, anti-CRT legislation, deplatforming, and book bans, what is the real value of free expression for unpopular or even detestable ideas? Are there limits to free expression, in the name of toleration, resisting hate, or the like? Is so, what are those limits? And what can our culture and/or political systems do to create a better “public forum” for debate and disagreement?

Come discuss these issues and more in one of our “Across the Aisle” Deliberative Forum! On the week of March 4th – 8th we will be hosting a number of small group (4-6 people) student discussion sessions on campus around this very topic. The discussion groups will be constructed and moderated to facilitate honest, respectful dialogue amongst students with different party affiliations and ideological perspectives. These series of discussions are part and parcel to research on cross-party dialogue and its effects on attitudes toward democracy. Participants will be asked in the spring to fill out a short survey before the forum, as well as a short survey afterwards.

Join one of these enlightening and rewarding discussions across the aisle! If you are potentially interested, click the link below, or email Dr. Ryan Strickler for more information.

Pack Eats Program

On behalf of Auxiliary Services

CSU Pueblo proudly introduces the Pack Eats Program, designed to minimize food waste and support student welfare. Through this innovative initiative, enrolled students have the opportunity to participate in a text messaging service that notifies them of surplus catering food availability on campus. Students receive timely notifications indicating when surplus food is available for pickup, thereby encouraging community engagement and resourcefulness. The Pack Eats Program not only addresses food waste but also contributes to the overall well-being of our student body by providing easy access to additional sustenance.
