Dear Friends,
I hope you are enjoying this foggy, cool October as much as I am! I have been celebrating the season by watching the leaves get their fall colors, hoping for rain, and putting up a Halloween decoration or two. Please continue reading below for announcements, information on upcoming events, and community news!
Permit Sonoma Vacation Rental Complaint Hotline - Permit Sonoma announced today the launch of a new vacation rental complaint hotline to assist neighbors and ensure compliance with vacation rental regulations. The hotline will be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to improve the experience for neighbors and others who seek to report vacation rental ordinance violations.

Vacation rentals have requirements for operation defined by Sonoma County Code that address potential nuisance issues. Restrictions on when noise can be made, prohibitions of amplified sound and fire pit size limits are some examples of regulation violations that can be reported with the new hotline. If the designated property manager does not resolve the issue within one hour or 30 minutes during quiet time (10 p.m. to 7 a.m.) a complaint may be submitted by calling the vacation rental hotline at (707) 875-6619.

Creative Sonoma: ArtSurround - Creative Sonoma has launched ArtSurround, a “creative placemaking” program to help bring more art into our public places. The program funded two county artists to create new work at the Sonoma Community Center and three District 1 artists who will be developing art projects at Pepperwood and in Petaluma at the Putnam Plaza. Artists were solicited who wanted to expand their “creative placemaking” practices. They were provided with a 2 ½ day training and artwork grants. Creative Sonoma facilitated a match-making process between participating artists and local advocates who had public sites available for the new work.

Artist Aim Hover will produce the “What Brings You Joy Project,” a collection of art created by community members from across Sonoma Valley displayed on two seventeen-foot-tall banners on the front of the Sonoma Community Center during winter 2023. Hundreds of people of all ages will be invited to illustrate their response to the question, “What brings you joy?” by completing a bilingual form with a blank space in which to create. Completed images will appear on the banners, bringing attention to the Sonoma Community Center during its 70th-anniversary celebration.

Artist Nicole Johnson will create the “Reincarnated Art Project,” a mural that will be installed in front of the Sonoma Community Center in February of 2023. Approximately 6 recycling and art making events will be hosted to bring environmental awareness to young people participating in after school programs held at the Center. Participating youth will create art to be displayed in front of the Center's street entrance. A celebration event will launch with the final installation.

For more information about this program including a complete list of the 27 participating artists and sites, go to https://www.creativesonoma.org/artsurround/. For more information about the Sonoma Community Center projects, contact Jill Valavanis at jill@sonomacommunitycenter.org.
Mark West Creek Regional Park and Open Space Preserve - Sonoma County Regional Parks seeks community input to help shape the future of Mark West Creek Regional Park and Open Space Preserve in northwest Santa Rosa. The department is creating a master plan to guide the park’s future development, public access, vegetation management, educational uses and habitat enhancement. The public is encouraged to share their desires, thoughts, and feedback by taking an online survey now through Nov. 11, 2022, at MarkWestCreekParkAndPreserve.org.

The 1,192-acre future regional park is located near Mark West Springs and Porter Creek roads in the southern part of the Mayacamas Mountains above Santa Rosa. Its oak woodland and redwood forests are former grazing and ranch lands, and its boundaries encompass Mill and Porter creeks, which both feed into Mark West Creek, a significant tributary of the Russian River and critical habitat for endangered species such as steelhead trout and spawning coho salmon.
