What an incredible teaching and support staff we have at Rutherford B. Hayes High School! This award-winning group of professionals are willing to do “whatever it takes” to make curriculum relevant and personal for students. We examined our data and found we had an obligation to improve our teaching and learning. We explored many different models and landed on the research of Robert Marzano and Mastery Learning. This unique method of teaching, learning, grading, assessing and reporting gives hope and transparency to all of our learners and we are working collaboratively to make this the “Delaware Way” of instructing.  Using the State of Ohio learning standards, we are developing proficiency scales for each standard to allow our students to see what they need to master as they progress up the learning ladder of success. We are rolling out this initiative with our 9th grade core classes as we embark on a five- year journey that will change our high school into an academic powerhouse. Our goal is that all 1,800 students pass every academic class and we achieve 100% passage rate on State of Ohio Graduation Assessments. Please check out the instructional videos included in this issue of Hoofprints and we will keep you informed along the way.

PANORAMA SURVEY

Delaware City Schools values input from all community stakeholders including our students, as we work to improve our communication, academic programs and the overall experience for everyone.  Our commitment to supporting the social and emotional health of our students is paramount in our strategic plan and the work our staff has done over the past couple of years.

In order to learn more about student experiences at school, we will be asking our students in grades 3-12 to provide feedback via an online survey twice each school year.  The survey will cover topics including sense of belonging, self-management, emotion regulation, and engagement.  Given the current learning environments and challenges facing our students, this feedback will provide valuable insights into their experiences and how we can improve and adapt to meet their needs.  We are partnering with a third-party vendor (Panorama) to support us in administering these surveys and all responses will be confidential.

The survey questions can be accessed using these links:

Grades 3-5

Grades 6-12

If you have any questions or concerns about this survey, please reach out to your child's school counselor or the school office.
