FNCE 3336 Real Estate a Practical Approach

Throughout the fall 2017 semester the Barings class continued to train students in the process of recognizing and vetting investment real estate opportunities. Student were given case scenarios where they had to consider every nuance of a particular deal and give their best analysis and conclusion for presenting their case  The students worked through case studies to determine viability and internal rate of return, eventually pitching and defending or rejecting the deal.

On October 16, 2017 the students took a class field trip to Fan Pier Development in Seaport submarket of Boston.  Dave Reilly gave an historical overview of the property, project and economic impact while Richard Martini of the Fallon Company,   and developers of the project, presented the construction point of view to the students.

On December 5, 2017, students presented their final group presentations to Mark Fischer,  CBRE, Marty Kane, Barings  and Dave Reilly former CEO Cornerstone.    The case featured a potential investment development for a Connecticut luxury apartments complex .  Students had to perform market research analysis and underwrite  the property in order to make their best pitch for this investment opportunity.
