Dear Residents -

It’s the last weekend of October and there are many events taking place in Orangetown. For starters, the Pearl River Farmers Market will be hosting the last farmers market of 2023 on Saturday. Check out their lineup here. On Saturday afternoon, the Nyack Chamber of Commerce is having its 34th Annual Halloween Parade in downtown Nyack. The parade steps off at 5:30 pm. And both events (as of now) will have no precipitation.

On Sunday, you will not have far to travel to compete in the John M. Perry Annual Turkey Shoot, held at their post: 691 Route 340, Sparkill, NY. Then head over to Palisades for their Fall Family Fun Day of Scarecrows & Pumpkins at the Palisades Community Center, and finish off at Piermont's Oktoberfest.

Due to a shortage of blood, the Rockland GAA is holding a blood drive tomorrow at their clubhouse. If you are around and can spare a pint, the New York Blood Center would appreciate it. You can schedule an appointment or just head over to the GAA and walk in. They are located on the grounds of the old Rockland Psychiatric Center at 160 Old Orangeburg Road, Orangeburg, NY.

As a reminder, early voting starts this Saturday, October 28, and runs through November 5. You can vote at any Town Hall, at the Fire Training Center or Pascack Community Center. Hours vary day to day, so please check before you go. Election Day is at your usual poll site on November 7, from 6 am to 9 pm. I know that it’s crazy that I still have to say this, but please get out and exercise your Constitutional right to vote.

Have a safe and Happy Halloween everyone.

Regards,

Teresa M. Kenny

Renaming Lydecker Street in Honor of PO Brown & Sgt. O'Grady

Many gathered in front of the Nyack Village Hall to witness the renaming of Lydecker St. to PO Brown and Sgt. O'Grady St. The renaming of the street took place on Friday afternoon and was to honor the two officers who laid down their lives 42 years ago.

42nd Annual Brinks Memorial Service

Supervisor Kenny attended the 42nd Annual Brinks Memorial Service on Friday, October 20, 2023. The sacrifices of Brinks Guard Peter Paige, P.O. Waverly Brown and Sgt. Edward O'Grady will never be forgotten.

Tappan Fall Fling!

Supervisor Kenny attended the Tappan Fall Fling in Tappan this past Saturday. Despite the threat of rain, many came out to join in on the fun, including Pastor Hoover, Danny Gurniak, a representative from Assemblyman McGowan's office, and Stephanie from Z-Fit Studio, just to name a few.

Rides & Strides

One in eight women in the United States will have breast cancer in their lifetime. Unfortunately, we all know someone who has been affected by this disease. When detected early, breast cancer survival rates are very high, but not every woman has access to important mammogram screening services. Proceeds from Rides & Strides will ensure that those women who are underinsured, uninsured and medically underserved receive the screening services they need on an annual basis. And special thanks to the Stapleton family for raising over $100,000 since 2014 in support of this cause.

Cornucopia, Meals on Wheels Style

Supervisor Kenny attended Meals on Wheels' annual fall Cornucopia, this past Monday night. She was honored to attend and celebrate with her good friend, Kenyatta Jones-Arietta, who was recognized by Meals on Wheels for her contributions throughout the years. CEO Kevin Hardy and Director of Home Delivered Meals, Sharon Martini, were on hand to welcome everyone. The top picture is a group of all the chefs who participated at the event.

Orangetown Police Department

Many thanks to South Orangetown Ambulance Corps and Montefiore Nyack Hospital for their assistance at this event.
