September Newsletter

At the end of each summer camp week this year, we shared the fact that BCC only exists because our community wants it to exist. We ALL work together in support of the growth, learning, and encounters with faith that happen here throughout the year.

"Do we know anyone who..." Is a familiar phrase that gets uttered a lot by the year-round staff in the early Fall season. Following summer we spend time reflecting by looking at the successes, identifying the areas for growth, and dreaming of how we can build into the future. Occasionally those dreams lead us to a need for people with specific passions, interests, and skill sets.

We know that anyone with a passion for BCC can contribute to this community and we're taking this time to ask, listen, and connect. Below are a few of the niches we've already been thinking about for the upcoming year. If you have a gift to share not listed below, we want to hear from you too! Please take some time to read further about some of our specific needs, fill out the short interest form and help us connect with you so we can explore ways your talents can build BCC for the campers and families coming next summer and beyond.

Summer Volunteer Healthcare Professional

BCC's accreditation through the American Camp Association requires us to be in consultation with a licensed healthcare professional while summer camp is in session. Nurses, doctors, and EMTs can fulfill this role and will have the opportunity to work alongside our summer healthcare coordinator to tend to camper and staff health needs throughout a week of camp. Tasks may include administering basic first aid, distributing medication, and working with parents and campers to best care for campers while they're here at camp. Those volunteering to serve in this capacity can bring a camper to camp at no cost. Even if you don't think this is a good fit for you this upcoming summer, we'd love to have your name on our running list of potential invites!

Interior Design

Did you know that in the past year, we have added new restrooms in the dining hall and remodelled and added bedrooms in the Retreat House? These spaces are now in need of intentional touches to make them welcoming and comfortable - paint, artwork, furniture, and accessories. We're looking for someone with an eye for aesthetics to help us complete this project!

Bear Creek Ambassadors

The number one way that new campers and families learn about BCC is through word-of-mouth marketing. BCAs typically serve in the role for their congregation or their community. They are equipped and empowered to grow our community through the sharing of stories and connecting interested families with information and resources throughout the year.

Maintenance/Groundskeeping

3000 acres, 35 roofs, and 57 toilets are just a few of the stats that make the work of keeping BCC an inviting and welcoming facility a challenging task. There are changing maintenance and groundskeeping needs throughout the year and tasks can range from longer, multi-day sessions to complete a large project or more frequent, shorter time commitments to keep up with ongoing maintenance tasks.

Board & Committees

The BCC Board of Directors is made up of members of our community working together to drive forward our mission and long-term vision. Throughout the year, committees and task forces are convened to work on more specific areas of camp operations. If you'd be interested in serving in this way, an additional question on the interest form asks you to help define what you're passionate about - some examples include diversity & inclusion, finance, program, and development. Special note that we're just a couple of years away from our 50th Anniversary and looking for those interested in planning that time of celebration and commemoration!
