Fall Community Clean-Up Dates

Dear Karen,

FIPPOA will be holding two community clean-ups this Fall, the first for yard waste and the second for household items.

When the Town of Brookhaven contracted with Brownie for garbage collection over two years ago, the provision in the contract that enabled the traditional community clean-ups was eliminated. This has required an annual negotiation to reinstate the clean-ups and has required FIPPOA to fund much of the cost in the prior two years. It has also been challenging to provide dates well in advance so that residents may plan accordingly. After this year, I anticipate significantly more advance notice.

Next weekend, Saturday, October 1st, is designated for yard waste. To allow for more yard waste to be collected than in previous years, we have arranged for the Town of Brookhaven Highway Department to chip yard debris before it is placed in the dumpsters. This should enable a significantly larger volume.  Since there is only one chipper, there will be only two sites to bring your debris and each site will operate during a specific timeslot as follows:

Fishermans Path, 9-11AM

Coast Guard Walk, 11:30AM-1:30PM

The attached flyer details what debris is and is not permitted. Please note that this date is for yard waste only, and under no circumstances is waste of any kind to be left at Fisherman or Coast Guard outside of the designated hours of operation.

On Saturday, October 15th, we will hold the second of the two Fall clean-ups, this time for household items only. More information will follow in a subsequent newsletter.

We need your help!

These events depend upon volunteers. If you would like to volunteer for either cleanup day, please click here VOLUNTEER

Curbside Household Garbage Pick-up occurs twice weekly on Mondays (except for holiday weekends when it shifts to Tuesday) and Thursdays during the Summer. Effective next week, curbside pick-up will occur on Mondays only. Wednesday bulk and recyclable item pick-ups will continue. Please don’t be alarmed when your garbage is not picked up on Thursday of next week, and please plan accordingly.
