Welcome to your library news update! The Summer Reading challenge rolls through August. Be sure to stop by the branches August 1-8 for Grab and Go children's activity bags. Drop by and pick up lots of far-out, outer-space-themed fun to go or come into a branch for one of our Fabulous Friday events and have hands-on fun with space science.
Get ready to go Back to School with the library, whether you're gathering in a classroom or learning at home. We have Good Reads titles to download for every grade, and the littlest listeners can have their own learning time with the library’s Grow a Reader classes. If reading is a little ruff, sometimes a furry friend can lend a paw. Students can sign up for Paws for Reading practice sessions, both online and in the branches, to spend time with friendly therapy dogs.
Learning is a lifelong activity! On August 9, be sure to join us virtually as local naturalist and historian Jon Bachman shares his knowledge of a favorite shellfish and its place in the Chesapeake Bay's ecosystem. If tech is your thing, discover IdeaSpace and its Tech on the Go kits to check out. This month, we’re featuring our new directional microphone for smartphones.
If you've found a favorite show to stream, try following it to its source, and Read Your Streams. We have the original books to download that inspired Bridgerton, Enola Holmes, Shadow and Bone, and many more.
We have so many talented writers in our region, and over 50 of them will be joining us for the annual Local Author Reception. If you’re a writer--or want to be--we have groups that meet monthly to share their work and learn new techniques. Teens have their online writing groups, too, for both poetry and fiction.
