Hello conservation community,

The temperatures have spiked, but the calendar tells us it's finally fall! You know what that means: the rains slowly start to come back, Stream Watch volunteers are keeping a close eye on when our streams start to run, and soon Paul's monthly rainfall summary will be back. We hope you're as excited as we are to collect and plant acorns, remove some invasive weeds, get back in action in schools throughout the county, and kick off the start of our busy season!

Until next time,

Napa RCD

What's the Scene at Your Local Stream? Stream Watchers Watch for Rain

Stream Watch volunteers are a crucial part of keeping our eyes on our creeks and streams here in Napa County! Each time fall comes around, we put our Stream Watch Community Scientists on what we like to call Rain Watch.

Why? We are trying to track when our streams start running. We need to know how much rain it takes to make a dry stream run for a day, a week, or continuously through the winter.

We have 30+ sites we are watching on a variety of streams up and down the Napa River watershed, so if you're interested in helping us set the scene on some streams, visit the Stream Watch webpage!

News & Announcements

Coastal Cleanup Day- A Successful Wave of Volunteer Action!

A round of applause for Napa County volunteers! Thank you to all 388 volunteers that showed up and cleaned up in Napa County. Y'all did amazing work for just 3 hours- a total of 3,351lbs of litter was collected before the rains have the chance to wash it all downriver. We had scouts, we had high school clubs and sports teams, we had community groups, we had corporate groups, we had families... so many of you came out to Keep Napa Clean.

A special thank you to the folks that ran the show on the ground- our Site Captains! They're the ones that greeted you, made sure you had supplies, and helped sort through the items you found. They also kept track of all the weights, so we can report exactly how much was collected.

Well done, everyone!

Ridge Trail Day Kicks Off Invasive Plant Volunteer Series

Napa RCD is excited to offer a series of volunteer events focusing on the satisfying task of invasive plant removal. Events will take place at locations throughout Napa County.

Kicking off the series is Ridge Trail Day in American Canyon! American Canyon Parks & Rec has put together a couple projects for Ridge Trail Day, and invited us to help out in their efforts to remove some highly invasive Himalayan blackberry. Don't be scared- we've got leather gloves, shovels, and ideas on how to avoid those prickly stems!

Please register for this event through the City of American Canyon.

Dates for December through March are on our website's event calendar, and locations will be updated soon!

Acorns are Dropping, Are You Planning on Planting?

Are you a landowner in Napa County looking to plant a native oak tree (or two... or ten) on your property? Oaks do so many wonderful things for us, including provide shade, habitat, carbon sequestration, and more. If you'd like to add one of these beauties to your land, we can help. We have acorns, planting protection cages, and expertise to share if you need it!
