Hello Steve, Enjoy our Saints News!
HEAD OF SCHOOL MUSING

In 2020, VCHS joined over 50 schools in becoming a CESA Member of Council. Only two of them reside in Colorado – Valor Christian High School and ours. CESA is the acronym for The Council on Educational Standards and Accountability and achieving their standards is no small task. For VCHS, the CESA standards push us in pursuing excellence in all areas.

Mr. Mysnyk, Mrs. Verratti, and I just returned from the Annual CESA Symposium in Minneapolis – a gathering of almost 600 Christian school leaders. There, keynote speakers with recent book publications challenged us on a variety of topics –

During a breakout session, I also presented a case study to school heads and CFOs titled – Make Hay While the Sun Shines: Agile Strategic Planning for Famine in a Season of Plenty. Generally speaking, Christian schools (and private schools on the whole) are experiencing a ‘Season of Plenty’ but there is a spiritual principle that has captured my attention called the ‘Joseph Effect,’ or to put it simply – prudent stewardship of God’s resources by playing offense and defense simultaneously. For Joseph that was seven years of preparation for seven years of famine.

I’ve been a part of CESA since its founding in 2010, served on its Board of Directors, and continue to be a champion of its work. And I’m deeply committed to having VCHS be part of the CESA network. Why? We become better – more excellent – as we connect and rub shoulders with some of the best minds in our industry, or as Solomon put it in his Book of Proverbs –As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.

Trapshooting Overview

Trapshooting is an Olympic sport of clay target competition which is a game of movement, action and split-second timing. It requires the accuracy and skill to repeatedly aim and fire a shotgun to break a 4 inch clay disc which is moving through the air at a speed of 42mph.

There are 3 trapshooting events in each tournament:

  •  Singles - 1 clay target thrown from a distance of 16 yards,
  •  Handicap -1 clay target thrown from distances 19-27 yards
  •  Doubles - 2 clay targets thrown at the same time and the athlete must take 2 shots to hit both targets

Tournaments are typically 3-5 days in duration and offer 900-1,500 targets.
