Dear Calverton Families,

This school year, we have been excited to host a Parent Talk series for our community. The Student and Learning Committee brainstormed a handful of topics that parents might want to learn more about. By the end of the series this school year, we will have hosted four talks on a variety of topics, hopefully at least one of which will prove to be helpful and meaningful to you and your family! Each of the topics were selected with all parents of students in grades PK-12 in mind.

Our February 23rd Parent Talk is presented by Dr. Kelsey Woods from Waypoint Wellness, who is an expert in Executive Functioning. She will review the 11 domains of Executive Functioning and will describe how you might see your student’s executive functions in action, some of which may be strengths and some of which may be areas for growth. Importantly, Dr. Woods will provide strategies for students across all grade levels that can be easily implemented at home to facilitate your student’s executive functioning development as well as a brief overview of how to evaluate whether a student needs support in this area.

If you are interested in attending this free, virtual event, please sign up using this registration form. We are so grateful to Dr. Woods and Waypoint Wellness for donating their time and resources on this very valuable topic!

Stay tuned for more information regarding our in-person March 1st session with Jim Hott from the Maryland Center for School Safety His presentation is entitled, “The Danger of Devices.”

If you have any questions about a chosen topic or would like more resources, please do not hesitate to reach out to me at any time. I have enjoyed getting to know more families each week as I work with students and their families across divisions.

I look forward to seeing you at our Parent Talks!
