LET'S GET BETTER TOGETHER
WPSBA WENT BACK TO IN-PERSON ROUNDTABLES this week with 2 rounds of productive conversations and a delicious dinner cooked by SWBOCES culinary arts students. Read yesterday's Tea To Go and incorporate some of the best practices shared into your own district processes. You can take advantage of more opportunities to learn from each other this year through our Community Conversations bi-monthly virtual series, which will focus on hot-button school board issues all year long.
WE'RE ALL TALKING ABOUT STUDENT MENTAL HEALTH
THE COVID ERA HAS BROUGHT FRESH ATTENTION to student mental health struggles. The prominent focus on this issue led lawmakers to pass the bipartisan Safer Communities Act, with the express purpose of helping schools address student needs. But there is no quick fix to this growing problem and officials need to ensure additional funding in the future.
THE BENEFITS OF PRE-SCHOOL GET A SPOTLIGHT
IT'S NOT GRADES THAT MAKE EARLY CHILDHOOD education a game-changer, but rather the likelihood that children are better set up for success in school and in life. PS: It's the social-emotional benefits that persist into adulthood. Not all pre-schools are created equal, but the most impactful programs have been found to start with play-based learning and offer universal access for all children.
Make sure you are prepared for the upcoming NYSSBA Business Meeting
