Breakfast from the Farm: October 8th, Milton Fairgrounds

Farm & Food Care Ontario (FFCO), the Halton Agricultural Society and the Milton Fall Fair are gearing up for Breakfast from the Farm to be held at the Milton Fairgrounds on October 8th from 8 am - noon. The event will welcome urban and suburban neighbours in the Milton area, inviting them to experience Ontario food and farming up close and talk to farmer volunteers.
Celebrate Ontario Agriculture Week
From October 3-9, join FFCO in celebrating Ontario Agriculture Week and remind everyone that Ontario is a province overflowing with fresh, locally-grown, high-quality food and products.

Ontario Agriculture Week celebrates the abundance of food farmers produce, the Ontarians employed by the industry, and the rural communities and economy fueled by farmers.

Show your love for Ontario food using #loveONTfood across your social media networks, and use FFCO's Ontario Agriculture Week social media kit to show your support.
Source Local Food Fest

The Ontario Federation of Agriculture and FFCO are reminding Ontarians to Source Local when they are shopping for food, fiber and flowers.

A province-wide Source Local Food Fest will take place in four locations:
  • October 3 in Thunder Bay: 11 to 1 at the Marina, Festival area.
  • October 4 in London: 11 to 1 at Dundas Place in front of Fanshawe College.
  • October 6 in Ottawa: 11 to 1 at Algonquin College in Ottawa.
  • October 7 in Halton: 3 to 8 at Andrews Farm & Winery, 9635 10 Side Road, Milton

These ‘Post or Pose’ events provide a free meal to the first 250 people on site who post about it on social media or pose for a photo with their reason for sourcing local.
Help us do the Dirty Work this fall with The Real Dirt on Farming
This fall, FFCO is beginning the monumental task of creating the sixth edition of The Real Dirt on Farming - due out in 2023.

We’ve got lots of “dirty work” to do behind the scenes before we’re ready to launch (researching, writing, fact checking, sourcing of photos and profiles to name a few). We know farmers and food producers understand dirty work better than anyone else, so we’re inviting you to show us what your Dirty Work looks like in support of the sixth edition!

Share your Dirty Work selfie or photo and donate to be entered in a draw for a chance to WIN two tickets to our November 17th Denim and Diamonds-themed Harvest Gala in Guelph, ON (value: $300)

Meet a member: Jim & Judy Gowland

"Jim and Judy Gowland have farmed in the GTA (Greater Teeswater Area) for more than 40 years and have been involved with farm organizations locally provincially and nationally for the majority of those years.

Primarily a grains and oilseeds operation, “The Gowland’s” focused on the highest quality that they could produce for local commodity markets and global food markets. To compliment producing their high quality products, Jim and Judy always put a high amount of emphasis promoting their product and production management from local elementary school tours, county school education events to provincial, national and international audiences and buyers through commodity organization involvement.

To further strengthen that “farm to fork” relationship, Jim served as a director on Farm and Food Care Ontario and Jim and Judy’s farm operation continues to be a supporter member of FFCO. “The Gowland’s” philosophy is that any type of agricultural
business needs to interact through respectful listening, positive dialogue and to continue building a genuine trust with the public consumer and related stakeholders. For Jim and Judy, Farm and Food Care Ontario is definitely that united voice of a very proud agriculture and agri-food industry in this country."
