A huge shoutout also goes to Local Church Forsyth and Lou Sobh Automotive for sponsoring the Christmas Tree Lighting event, and to The Big Beyond for providing a fantastic concert. Jesse's House and American Indian Heritage Month Celebrated in November

During their November Regular Meeting, Mayor Troy Brumbalow and City Council presented two proclamations:

Jesse's House "Harvesting Hope" - This proclamation honored Jesse's House, a local non-profit that provides a home for adolescent girls throughout Georgia, and celebrated its first fall fundraiser called Harvesting Hope for Jesse's House. Members of the Jesse's House executive board received the proclamation.

American Indian Heritage Month - This proclamation recognized the contributions of American Indians to our community and nation, and celebrated November as American Indian Heritage Month. Members of the Patriots of Liberty, National Society Children of the American Revolution from Cumming received the proclamation.

In other business during the November Regular Meeting, City Council took the following actions:

  • Heard a report from Tracy Helms, Director of the Cumming Fairgrounds, regarding the 2023 Cumming Country Fair & Festival. While revenue from the fair was down slightly from 2022, most likely due to three days which were negatively impacted by weather, the fair was still very successful.

  • Approved an alcohol license application for Mary Lucille's at 431 Vision Drive, Suite F104 at the Cumming City Center, and approved 61 alcohol license renewals for 2024.

  • Heard a report from Police Chief PJ Girvan noting that every officer with the Cumming Police Department now has an Avive Intelligent AED as part of the 4-Minute City program, a partnership between Avive, Northside Forsyth Hospital, City of Cumming and Forsyth County governments, and all emergency service providers in Cumming and Forsyth County. The program seeks to ensure that anytime someone goes into cardiac arrest there is an AED within 4 minutes of the person, which greatly increases the odds of survival.

  • City Administrator Phil Higgins presented a summary of the City's 2024 budget. A public hearing will be held on the budget during the Dec. 5th Work Session at 6 p.m.

  • Approved purchase of Stream Mitigation Credits for the Sawnee Drive Extension Project as required by the Environmental Protection Division of Georgia.

  • Approved updates to the City of Cumming's Parking Ordinance which will restrict overnight parking and allow for towing of vehicles parked beyond time limits at any and all City parking decks and lots.

  • Accepted the low proposal from Townley Construction Co, Inc. for site work for Cumming Utilities' Heirloom Subdivision Water Booster Station, and accepted the low proposal from Goforth Williamson Inc. for the Heirloom Subdivision pump equipment.
