The month of March brings with it new beginnings. Daylight saving time returns on Sunday, March 12 and the first day of spring is Monday, March 20 (though we know it often arrives much later in the Champlain Valley). We also recognize Women's History Month in March by celebrating the contributions of women in our society.
In Vermont, March also brings Town Meeting Day, a day when members of our communities come together to legislate policy and budgets for local government. The decisions made on Town Meeting Day affect all of us, including, and especially, our neighbors in need. On Town Meeting Day, and everyday, we remind ourselves that we are the solution and hope to the injustice around us.

"Community is the heart of Vermont and the cornerstone of our work here at CVOEO. Town Meeting Day presents us all with an opportunity to vote on local issues. In addition, it offers us a moment to stand in solidarity with our neighbors, make our voices heard, and collectively make a difference. Civic engagement flourishes in a just society. Thank you for making Vermont a better place to live."

Manufactured Home Program
|
|
Governor Phil Scott and the Department of Housing and Community Development recently announced the launch of the Manufactured Home Improvement and Repair Program. This program will offer financial assistance to mobile home parks as well as mobile home owners. The program will provide financial assistance for park improvements, home repair, and foundation installation.
This three part program will be able to financially support new and existing homeowners and park owners with renovations and improvements to lots and their homes.
CVOEO's Housing Advocacy Program Director, Sandrine Kibuey, shares, "for decades, mobile home communities have been facing a number of environmental and habitability challenges. This program should significantly improve immediate areas of need, such as the lack of availability and easy access to resources for home repair and maintenance and replacement or removal of old, outdated, and abandoned mobile homes."

One year of the CORA truck
|
|
In March 2022, CVOEO’s Community Outreach & Resource Advocacy (CORA) Team unveiled their mobile outreach vehicle to better serve clients in the community and to provide a safe space for them to access vital programs and services. The truck is equipped with two laptop computers for clients to connect to services and benefits, phone charging stations, a coffee maker, a microwave, a space heater, a minifridge, and more.
To power all of this in an environmentally friendly way, Green Mountain Solar equipped the truck with a custom-designed battery backup system. Instead of idling for hours on end, the truck can sit peacefully and only run its engine when it physically needs to move from place to place.
With the CORA truck, the CORA Team has made a real difference in our community during the past 12 months:
Number of locations visited: 30+
Number of Individuals served: 650+
Number of individual visits: 1,000+
CVOEO’s CORA Team was formed in 2021 to conduct outreach and provide support to people experiencing homelessness. The CORA Team connects clients to case management, provides interim case management, supports people in the midst of mental health crises, helps people access warm shelter, and brings food and other essential items directly to people. CVOEO’s CORA Team is one of the only outreach teams that provides direct support to people in encampments and other remote, community-based locations in the Burlington area.
