Donations Needed
The Goldens keep arriving at AGA - will you
consider donating?
Again this month we are making a plea for help this month to support the many new rescue Goldens that have arrived at our doorstep.
We anticipated that this may happen when life began turning back to normal post-COVID and we are so proud to be a source people turn to when they can no longer care for their Golden. This selfless act is one of the most difficult decisions a family can make for their pups. We are seeing many owner turn-ins and are receiving lots of calls from local shelters with Goldens in need of a new home. Several have heartworm, medical issues, and training needs which we quickly move to rectify and as a result, we have seen our medical/training costs skyrocket.
We cannot do the work we do without the help from every one of you within our AGA family. Even the smallest amount will help us to provide the care needed for these pups while they look for their forever home.
Will you please consider donating today?

Orphan Spotlight:
Meet Sinatra!
I was embarrassed to meet the AGA people when they came and took me out of the shelter. I have been on my own for quite some time, I think I was not looking my best. I don’t even remember what my “best” looked like and can’t even be sure what kind of dog I am! That is really hitting rock bottom. I needed a lot of help from my new doctor because my skin is not doing so well and my teeth need cleaning and, worst of all, I have heartworms. I might be around 12 years old but no one is sure. One thing that is certain, I need a home. I do have some very good things about me such as knowing my house manners, walking well on a leash, and taking treats gently...
You can read more about me here.

Tips for a Happy, Healthy and
Humane Thanksgiving

Yes, Thanksgiving is a special day, and while you might want to share some of your holiday feasts with your Golden, think twice about what it is. This article from the ASPCA outlines what you should avoid feeding your precious pooch (and a few things that you can).

Blue Pearl Pet Loss Support Group
Our beloved pets are dear to us filling our hearts with unconditional love companionship and joy.
When we lose them, it is very difficult. We feel a void, sadness, and grief. But we are not alone.
Blue Pearl Georgia veterinarian specialists understand and began offering a pet loss support group 10 years ago where we can gather with others and support one another.
The meetings are informal, caring, and compassionate. Everyone who attends, whether mourning the loss of a pet, recently or in the past, in anticipation of loss or preparing for euthanasia gets it. They understand how very special the bonds are that we share with our pets and how much love and connection are intertwined with the painful feelings of loss and grief.
“Not only has the group given me new hope again but it's the first place I've ever really felt comfortable enough to talk openly and express my thoughts and feelings. It's rather touching how compassionate and sincere everyone is to one another. Just listening to others talk about their experiences, and interacting with people who genuinely care and understand how profound losing a pet can be, has made me feel a lot less alone. I can only speak for myself, but from what I've heard and witnessed it is that your group has been a saving grace for many, many many others as well.”
- Lauren Y.
The Blue Pearl Georgia veterinarian specialist pet loss support group is facilitated by Robin Chisolm-Seymour, a GA adopter, and volunteer. She holds a Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology and over 30 years in the mental health care field and is a member of The Association for Pet Loss and Bereavement. www.aplb.org
The group meets most Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8:00 PM at the Blue Pearl Veterinarian Specialist location in Sandy Springs. There is no charge for participation. Reservations can be made by contacting Robin at 770-642-3665 or emailing rchisolmseymour@yahoo.com. She is happy to help.

Ask the Trainer:
What is your dog saying?
Barks, growls, howls, whines, and whimpers - your dog is talking to you, and he's got a lot to say! Is it a distress bark or a plea to play? What is the sound of pain vs. boredom?
Check out this article from The Whole Dog Journal to learn more about your dog's vocal communication.
