Hi, Mia!

I'm often asked, if you and your opponent are both progressives, what's the difference?

Glad you asked.

We hear a lot about the inaccessibility, corruption, and dirty dollar donations of my opponent. But what does that mean in real life terms for you and the residents of our district?

There are consequences when our elected officials accept donations from corporations and PACs, all while avoiding talking directly with constituents.

For example, while my opponent says she's a CalCare (Healthcare for All) co-author, a well-respected data analyst, Sara Roos, did a deep dive on my opponent's campaign contributions from "a laundry list of trade and managed-care and hospital associations not generally known for their support of single-payer ideology."

And what happened to the CalCare bill (AB 1400)? It was pulled from the floor before any sort of full vote could be held.

In response to the bill's failure, as the article points out, "in a classic exhibit of 'blame the victim', we citizens were exhorted to 'elect better legislators'."

This is gaslighting. We elect representatives to be our voice in the government, to make the hard votes that benefit our community and our state. But when our representatives hide behind No Votes and killed bills, we're still supposed to re-elect the incumbent and expect a better result? It's Einstein's definition of insanity.

If we want better outcomes in our state legislature, if we want votes that truly reflect the will of the people and not lobbyists, if we really want single-payer healthcare, if we really want to root out corruption, then we need to BREAK THE CYCLE of re-electing incumbents simply because they have the establishment machinery behind them.

I am the "Better Democrat" in this election. And because I've pledged to take no donations from corporations and PACs that don't align with our campaign's values, you won't need a professional data analyst to dissect who my votes benefit.

My votes in the legislature will always benefit the people of AD-52.

Ballots go in the mail to voters as early as this Thursday. Let's do all we can to break the cycle of incumbency and get a better result by electing the better Democrat. (That's me.)

CicLAvia

Sun, Oct 9

9am - 4pm

One of my favorite events of the year, CicLAvia closes streets to car traffic to allow access for pedestrians, runners, cyclists, skateboarders, strollers, and more. This isn't a race, it's just a really fun day enjoying streets in LA without motorized vehicles. There'll be activities, booths, food, and fun for all!

I really hope to see you there!

Glassell Park Table Town Hall

Last weekend, I joined the Glassell Park Improvement Association for a candidate table town hall. I listened to community members share their concerns and priorities - everything from saving the ancient Walnut Canyon from development to affordable housing to protecting bike lanes. And I hear you. I will ALWAYS listen to our constituents and pledge to hold quarterly town halls once elected.
