STORYTELLER ALUMNI UPDATE

Jenna Sommer

The Doyon Foundation journey doesn’t end with graduation! We are so proud of our alumni, the amazing places they have gone on to, the achievements they are making, and the positive differences they are having in their communities. Each month, we feature an update on one of our alumni. This month, we are pleased to highlight Jenna Sommer, one of the four Doyon Foundation staff members who are also previous scholarship recipients! Jenna currently serves as our scholarship program manager. Read more: bit.ly/DFJennaSommer

GRATITUDE CORNER

Melissa Herring

Melissa Herring, of Wasilla, is a student at the University of Alaska Anchorage, where she is working on her bachelor’s in biology. She plans to go on to medical school to become an audiologist. “I have many family members who are hard-of-hearing and I would like to help them and others in the hard-of-hearing community,” she said. “My Doyon Foundation scholarship makes it possible for me to go to school and have the future I am planning for. I am beyond grateful and it means the world to me. I hope to be able to give back the way that you have!”

SUPPORT

STORYTELLER SUPPORTER PROFILE

Cathy LeCompte, AVTEC

In this Storyteller supporter profile, we speak with Cathy LeCompte, director of the Alaska Vocational Technical Center in Seward. “If you've come to AVTEC to get trained to get a job, 180 days from now, that is exactly where you will land. We are here to support you, but you have to meet us halfway. You have to get up, go to school, let us know if you're having some challenges, and together, we will get you to that goal of getting trained and getting employed,” Cathy said. Watch, read or listen to Cathy’s interview: bit.ly/CathyLeCompte.
