GRATITUDE CORNER
Melissa Herring
Melissa Herring, of Wasilla, is a student at the University of Alaska Anchorage, where she is working on her bachelor’s in biology. She plans to go on to medical school to become an audiologist. “I have many family members who are hard-of-hearing and I would like to help them and others in the hard-of-hearing community,” she said. “My Doyon Foundation scholarship makes it possible for me to go to school and have the future I am planning for. I am beyond grateful and it means the world to me. I hope to be able to give back the way that you have!” •

Cathy LeCompte, AVTEC
In this Storyteller supporter profile, we speak with Cathy LeCompte, director of the Alaska Vocational Technical Center in Seward. “If you've come to AVTEC to get trained to get a job, 180 days from now, that is exactly where you will land. We are here to support you, but you have to meet us halfway. You have to get up, go to school, let us know if you're having some challenges, and together, we will get you to that goal of getting trained and getting employed,” Cathy said.
