Welcome to Quilting News
November 2022
Message from Lisa
I can't believe that one year ago, I was preparing for my knee replacement. Wow that year has flown by so fast. My knee is doing great and I have one less body part, my gull bladder. I really can't believe how fast time goes by when we are so busy doing everything we can. I guess we just need to stop and count our fabric.... better than smelling roses.

We just completed our 7th Spooktacular event that sold out in just two days, and we are working on our 5th Retreat in March. We have filled our daycare group up to the max and now we have started a Wool Group meeting once a month and a new monthly sewing group called the Quilted Sister's. We just have it rocking and rolling over at this studio. I hope that you are a part of one of these groups.

I continue to quilt those special projects that each of you create and I love making your project pop with the quilting. I still enjoy helping you pick out that wonderful pattern and thread colors. I appreciate all of you so much for making my job a success. Please know that each of you have a special place in my heart.

I'm trying to plan some new things for 2023. I know that from now till Christmas it's going to be very busy in my studio. So if you have a class you want, let me know. I do have the Cross Quilt planned for a class very soon. So let's just focus for November as we have many things that you can get involved in. We have a two day sew right after Thanksgiving. So sign up if you want a spot. You can leave your machine overnight.

Well, check below for all that we have scheduled and make sure you put these dates on your calendar.

Excited for all the new things happening at Shining Star! Trixie and I will see you very soon.

Quilting Sister's
Do you like to sew for charity? Do you like to sew with friends? Are you open on the Second Saturday of each month? Come join our new group of quilter's who have a passion to make items for charity groups. We will be using the conference room at the Firehouse off of Urbine Road in Powhatan. We will start at 9 AM and sew until 3 PM. You will need to bring your machine to each meeting and all your supplies. I will post the list of items in my newsletter each month as to what you might need to pre-cut before you come. Dress very relaxed and if you have any questions, just give me a call. Please bring something to drink for yourself and maybe a few snacks to share with others.

Our first meeting was a huge success. We complete 156+ pillowcases. I am so proud of our group for working hard on this project. We also had 1 comfort quilt turned in by Jan Hanlon.

For our November meeting we will be working on "3" Red, White and Blue" quilts that will go to the Fire Departments. So please bring your machine and run about 3 or 4 spools of white thread please. We will divide the group that day up and work on three quilts that have been pre-cut and ready to sew for this event. We shuffled our schedule a little as we have bigger plans for Christmas. The Firehouse will be making stew that day, so bring some cash and let's eat some great stew for lunch.....

Looking to December. Mark your calendar as we will be meeting on the FIRST Saturday. They have the Santa Breakfast on the second Saturday. We will be having a silent auction this day and ask each person to bring a handmade item to place in the auction. It could be a kit you bought, or food like a pie or cookies. We just want nice things that will help us raise money to start a budget for our group. We will also have a breakfast pot luck. You will only need to bring your scissors to this meeting as we will be cutting the hearts for the NICU at a few hospitals. Colleen will be bringing the patterns and we have several yards of fabric. If you want to toss you machine in the car, that is up to you. I just didn't want to ask too much for you to bring to this meeting. If you have any NICU blankets or Nursing home lap quilts, please bring them to donate at either the November or December meeting. We are also looking for more projects to work on for the new year. So if you have any ideas, please share with me so we can work out the details.

Until we see each other... Keep on Quilting my Sisters

Wooly Friends Group
Welcome to a very new and special group of ladies. Our next meeting is Tuesday, November 15th. Doors open at 9 AM. This group has room for more people. So if you have wanted to learn how to do wool projects or where to start, then you need to be at our next meeting.

At our November meeting, Phyllis Green is going to bring her cutter and each person is asked to bring scraps of wool as we will be cutting Pennies. 2 inch,
1 1/2 inch and 1 inch pennies. Each person who contributes wool will get some from the cuttings. Thanks to those who stepped up for the Halloween challenge and made the Halloween pumpkins Wool project.

For December we will have a Wool Ornament exchange. So pick out a cute project and get working. You will bring your ornament wrapped and we will swap the gifts for Christmas. Looking for anyone to do a program at our January Meeting. We have a few things we are working on. Like Wool trees or Willow trees possibly a Wool flower spray thingy.... I got mine in the mail.

Cross Class in 2023
I have been asked by several quilter's to have this class. I'm looking at January 28th for this class. If you would be interested in making this beautiful quilt with your colors of choice, then let me know so I can add you to the class list. The class will cost $25.00 and once your spot has been paid in full, I will give you the material specifications for the quilt. It measures about 48" x 66" depending on how big your borders are. So it could possibly be a little bigger.
Periwinkle Painted 301- Singer
Have you been dreaming of owning one of my painted 301 Singer machines? Well this is your lucky day. Paint Job #2 is ready for a new home. This one comes with a cabinet and is a short bed. So it would love to come and stay in your home for you to enjoy each day and sew with each day. I have been working on it for the past two weeks and it is the best sewing machine in my mind. I love a 301 in any color. I have two more waiting to get painted. So if you are interested in a different color, just give me a call. I have one with a case that is a long bed and one all alone that is a short bed.

To take this one home today the price is $550.00. Just give me a call and I can let you have a test run in my studio. You will fall in love!!!! Best decision you will make ever.
Quilters Daycare Group
Quilter's Daycare is a Thursday sew group. We are FULL right now with lots of ladies. SO please don't invite anyone else to our group Please make sure that you slide over and make room for everyone that wants to sew. We have an additional room that can hold only 4 sewers. We want everyone to feel welcome. We have missed many of you. Your $5 covers your seat charge each Thursday. See you soon! Reminder the door opens at 9 am not earlier. (I'm with mom getting her up and ready for her day)
Prayer Box for my customers
I have many of my customers who have recently had medical or family health issues arise or just traveling mercies. Many of my friends are prayer worriers and I think we could all use a little extra help about now. Sue Cook and husband, Teresa Whitlock, and mom. Please also keep Sister Angelia in your prayers. She prays for our group all the time. Praying for each of these listed for God to touch and heal their needs in specials ways. AMEN.
Thank You!
Please continue to bring a bag with your project when leaving it for quilting services. This helps me to keep all of your items together.

Payment is accepted by Cash, Check, Venmo and/or Zelle.

See you soon! Trixie and Lisa
